It’s Official: Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary Are The Best Places To Live In Canada
Would you be surprised to hear that Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is one of the ten most liveable cities in 2010
? How about knowing that Vienna, Austria was also included in the list and only just missed off the top spot by a mere 0.1 (ranking at 97.9). Or that Auckland, New Zealand’s Brand Viagra capital city was one of five cities in Oceania that featured in the top 10?
The popular public international affairs magazine, The Economist, produces a list of the best cities to live in in the world each year. In 2010, Helsinki, Vienna and Auckland, alongside Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth all featured in the top 10, with the remaining four places all being awarded to cities in the country that has long been considered one of the most liveable in the world; Canada.
According to the list, Vancouver is the most liveable city, with Toronto and Calgary coming in fourth and fifth respectively. Looking at the ratings that the three Canadian cities received – 98 for Vancouver, 97.2 for Toronto and 96.6 for Calgary – there isn’t a great deal between them, especially when looking at them in the overall list (Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, for example, ranked last out of the 140 cities that were included, with a ranking of 37.5).
If the difference is only a matter of less than 2 points, what exactly makes Vancouver a better city to live in than Toronto or Calgary?

Although the event may have officially ended on 28 February, all of the preparation work, including everything from brand new athletic buildings to revamped eateries, is all obviously still in place.
Education is one of the aspects that The Economist looks at and both Vancouver and Toronto had universities feature in the top 50 (out of 300) Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings 2009.
