But with the advent of texting, a new evil has arisen. Talking on a phone while driving is dangerous, but texting while driving has surpassed it in danger.

In 2009, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced that it would be against the law for federal government employees to send messages while operating a vehicle that is owned by the government. This was further expanded in 2010 when a law was enacted that states that is illegal for any bus or truck driver to do this while operating their automobiles.

The information is overwhelming, and the deaths have been piling up on the number charts because of this life-changing hazard. The world has started to respond by enacting laws and legislation, but those can only go so far.

Where change lies is in the individual and the family. To stop this atrocity, we as individuals need to personally vow not to do it. As families, we can set boundaries with ourselves and our kids so that we can protect ourselves from seeing the horrible effects of this crime.
