Louisburg is a great city in Miami County, Kansas in the United States. It is surrounded by wooded hills, streams and prairie land.

Many residents commute about 20 minutes to the Kansas Metro Area for their jobs, but most prefer the small-town atmosphere for living and raising their families. The Louisburg Chamber of Commerce, city government actions, community, businesses, schools and churches provide a large mix of indoor and outdoor activities each year in their local setting.

The city is on the smaller side with the United States Census Bureau report quoting it with an area of 3.4 square miles. Its 3.3 square miles consist of land while its 0.1 square miles is made up of water.

Its reported population was 2,576 according to the 2000 census. So, it is definitely small but a great city in that its fans are quite dedicated.

Before the American Civil War, the land was partly reserved for members of various tribes of Native Americans that were ceding their lands in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The Peoria, Wea, Piankeshaw and Kaskaskia tribes all settled there and eventually became the Confederated Tribe of Peoria.

Traders and Missionaries often visited the area and settlers began moving closer by early 1854. Then, they began setting up homes before the organization of the state of Kansas in 1861.

The new community of homes became known as St. Louis. Soon after, it became known as New St. Louis or Little St. Louis in order to distinguish it from St. Louis, Missouri.

The settlement of Little St. Louis grew to include businesses and churches; a railroad depot was also completed by 1871. That is the same year the first school opened in Louisburg.

During that time, the community had some disorder and some conflict between neighboring towns. Now with a solid government foundation, the city is a happy, go lucky establishment who enjoys the fruits of their hometown labors and natural amenities.

It is easy to see why the population is growing and why so many individuals and families have come to call this rustically charming city home.
