Writing a resume for students with no work experience can seem like a daunting task especially if you have no previous work history. This need not bee too difficult. It is important to keep it simple, easy to read and have a clear connection between what you are good at and what the business needs.

Once your contact information is included you will need to provide a short Objective. One or two sentences on why you want to work is sufficient. The purpose is to sort out the potential employees with goals, aspirations and clear intentions. A nice short objective could merely be:

“I am a student wishing to obtain a position to work around school hours. I value the importance of providing outstanding customer service and would like to enhance these skills and impart a significant contribution to your business.”

This is a very effective objective because it shows you don’t just think about your needs but are connecting with the business and how to help them also.

Next it is useful to add a section of a bulleted list to state your Transferable Skills. Think about all the skills you have developed throughout growing up that you are naturally good at. Some examples could be:

Then place a subtitle with the club, or establishment name and date you helped out there. Underneath each sub title you can list a few points to explain what you did. The next section is for Education. List your most recent qualifications or education here. Finally you can put a section for Interests if you like but don’t go into too much detail. Just a few bullet points will do such as reading, movies, sport etc.
