MGM Grand Hotel and Casino delivers everything the Grand stands for in its title. Everything is truly grand- the size, the games, the people, the performances, the drinks, the food and the fun.

Located in the Las Vegas strip in Paradise, Nevada, the MGM Grand Las Vegas is the second largest hotel in the world and second largest hotel resort complex in the United States behind The Venetian. In 1993, it was the largest hotel in the world, but the competition is always running.

MGM’s property contains 5 outdoor pools, rivers and waterfalls over some 6.6 acres, a convention center expanding over 35,000 square feet, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, CBS Television City and the Grand Spa to relax after a long day of attractions and luxury.

Inside this massive construction, there are many shops and night clubs, 16 restaurants and the largest casino in Clark County, which consumes 171,500 square feet. Across from New York, New York, this Grand casino and hotel holds its own in a city full of casinos and wonders to satisfy any gambling or entertainment fix.

The MGM Grand started out as a simple hotel in 1975 called the MGM Marina Hotel. It had 714 rooms and a casino. Then, in 1989, Kirk Kerkorian bought the Marina Hotel and the Tropicana Country Club which were both on the cialis costs property that is now the MGM Grand.

In 1991, the new complex began construction. The Marina closed, but the building still exists as the western end of the main hotel building.

Later, in 1993 on February 23, MGM held a topping off ceremony with the placement of the final emerald green panel of glass placed on top of one of the 30-story hotel towers. Also, 5,005 green balloons were released, each with a redeemable certificate applicable for a stay in one of the luxurious new rooms.

Why the emerald green as a motif? When the MGM Grand officially opened in 1993, it was managed by MGM Grand Inc., which had a Wizard of Oz theme.

Thus, the construction included the Emerald City color of the building, and decorations consisted of Wizard of Oz memorabilia. The old Oz Casino was complete with a yellow brick road walk through, a cornfield, an apple orchard, the haunted forest and figures of the Scarecrow, Dorothy, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion.

At the end of the yellow brick road, there would be a door of the city that lead to performances of “The Wizard’s Secrets,” an Emerald City Gift Shop and the Oz Buffet. Refurbished in 1996, the Oz Casino was the first to go, followed by the Emerald City and Brand Cialis the Oz Buffet which became the Grand Buffet.

The Emerald City gift shop stayed open until the beginning of 2003, but was eventually demolished. Today, the casino is completely different and few know of or remember its starting stages.
Up to date, it has been featured in many films like The Great White Hype, Ocean’s Eleven, Vegas Vacation and Swingers and was mentioned in Bringing Down the House.
