Mobile Ringtones You Might Have Heard on Public Transport Recently
In this age of mobile communications, your phone says a lot about you, and nothing more than your ringtone. A quiet, subtle, sophisticated ring is probably your style, persistent enough to disturb but not obnoxious enough to annoy. If you’re confused at the cacophony of bleeps and bangs emanating from young people’s phones, then this article might help you identify the most popular mp3 ringtones.
Jay-Z & Alisha – Empire State of Mind (New York)
This song is almost everywhere at the moment. Performed by rapper Jay-Z and R&B vocalist Alicia Keys, and taken from Jay-Z ‘The Blueprint 3’ album from 2009, ‘Empire State of Mind’ is an orchestral rap ballad with references to drugs, New York, residents and culture. The track obtained worldwide success with top ten places in the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Italy and Sweden as well as the US. The video shows Jigga Man and Keys performing the song in various New York locations.
Alicia Keys has even Levitra recorded a sequel; Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down which features on her fourth album, ‘The Element of Freedom’.
Lady Gaga – Telephone
Appropriately titled for a ringtone, ‘Telephone’ by Lady Gaga is a popular choice right now, alongside her first hit, ‘Poker Face’, co-written and co-produced by RedOne.
The 2009 album earned Gaga six Grammy Award nominations, picking up the Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.
One popular Gaga spin-off is the Eric Cartman rendition of ‘Poker Face’ lifted from Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated series, containing the strained vocal chords of Colorado’s most foul-mouthed school kid.
Tinie Tempah – Pass Out
Tinie Tempah, or Patrick Junior C. Okogwu is rapper and MC from South London, who burst onto the burgeoning UK Grime scene with his underground hit ‘Wifey’ in 2006. His recent single ‘Pass Out’ from 2010’s ‘The Disc-Overy’ LP.
Plan B – She Said
From Forest Gate in London, Plan B has dropped the guitar and gone all soulful on his new records. Plan B’s ‘Who Needs Actions When You Got Words’ album was critically acclaimed in 2006 upon its release. ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’ an album and film written and directed by Plan B have been released in 2010, ‘She Said’ is an incredibly popular ringtone, with the song often being compared to the work of Dangermouse and Cee-Lo green on the Gnarls Barkley album.
Scouting for Girl – This Ain’t A Love Song
London indie band Scouting for Girls are Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard and formed in 2005. The band name is a play on ‘Scouting for Boys’, a scouting handbook first published in 1908.
In September 2007 they released a self titled debut album which contained several hit singles including ‘She’s So Lovely’ and ‘Elvis Ain’t Dead’. Their new song, ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’, is currently a very popular ringtone, but should not be confused with the Bon Jovi song of the same name.
