New York is the most populous city in the United States and is the center of the New York metropolitan area. It is a leading metropolis with a powerful influence over global Viagra Professional commerce, finance, media, culture, art, fashion, research, education and entertainment.

It has many nicknames including The Big Apple, The City Levitra Professional That Never Sleeps, The Capital of the World (Caput Mundi), The Center of the Universe, NYC, Gotham, The Greatest City in The World, The Empire City, The City So Nice They Named It Twice, The City and The Concrete Jungle. These are all used interchangeably and its inhabitants are known as New Yorkers.

Host of the United Nations Headquarters, it is also an important center for international affairs and foreign policies. It is located on a large natural harbor in the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States.

It houses five main boroughs including The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The population was estimated to exceed 8.3 million in 2008 and on only 305 square miles of land.

The metropolitan area’s population is also the nation’s largest reaching about 19.1 million people covering 6,720 square miles. The combined statistical areas contain the greater 22.2 million people according to 2009 estimates.

It was originally founded as a commercial trading post by the Dutch in the year 1624. The colony was known as New Amsterdam until 1664 when the English took control and changed its name.

It used to be the capital of the United States from 1785 to 1790. It has been the country’s largest metropolis ever since housing as many as 800 languages; it is also the most linguistically diverse metropolis in the world.

There are many landmarks and attractions that are famous enough to draw in crowds from all over the world such as the Statue of Liberty which greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the last years of the 19th century and early 20th century. Times Square is a place that is known as “The Crossroads of the World.”

Times Square is known for its illuminated collection of Broadway theaters and is one of the world’s busiest pedestrian intersections. Wall Street also is found in Lower Manhattan and has been the leading global financial center since World War II; it is also home to the New York Stock Exchange, the world’s largest stock exchange.

Chinatown also attracts many tourists to its bustling sidewalks and famous retail opportunities. This place is also home to two world class research universities known as Columbia University and New York University.

Its architecture alone is enough to bring people around from all over the World. Known for its magnificent skyscrapers, it is a pioneering metropolis that has set the scales for architecture worldwide.

The cityscape is the largest and most famous among every culture and country. From the George Washington Bridge on the far left to Midtown Manhattan in the center down to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at the far right from the east, the view is one unlike any other.

There are many architectural styles to be discovered from the Woolworth Building built in 1913 as an early blind date propecia Gothic revival skyscraper to the art deco design of the Chrysler Building in 1930 with its tapered top and steel spire.

This is the home of the tallest buildings ever constructed. In August 2008, it was recorded as housing 5,538 highrise buildings including 50 completed skyscrapers taller than 656 feet – more than any other metropolis in the United States and second in the world behind Hong Kong.

The original Chinatown in Lower Manhattan is one of the most populated ethnic Chinese gatherings outside of Asia and has many appealing sidewalks, restaurants and discount retail opportunities. It is the largest Chinatown in the United States.

The city also is home to large residential districts that are often defined by their classic brownstone row houses, townhouses and shabby tenements all of which were built during a period of rapid population growth from the 1870s until the 1930s. Stone and brick were the city’s building materials of choice during the reconstruction of wood-frame houses after the Great Fire of 1835.

Also, in the 1920s, garden apartments became popular. Nature is also brought in through their many famous parks.

New York City has over 28,000 acres of municipal parkland and 14 miles of public beaches. This offers a diverse area of land for all diversions and activities desired by many in The Melting Pot.
