Early industries of the area include farming, sawmills, textile mills, potash production, glassworks and quarrying. A vein of iron ore led to the digging of mines under the town and iron works became another leading industry.

The town has certainly come a long way since its early settlement but still offers a peak back in time to what it was like back in the day. That is one thing that is unique about this town; it takes you back while offering a comfortable modern accommodation.

Lenox also ranks eighth out of the 32 cities and towns in Berkshire County by population and 2444th out of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. The town is mostly white with a population of 96.57% Caucasians.

The population is an additional 1.3% African Americans, .08% Native Americans, 1.02% Asian, .04% Pacific Islander, .41% other races and .57% from two or more races. Though not culturally diverse, Lenox is culturally unique.
