Buffalo Bills Tickets – Three’s Company in Buffalo Backfield
When the Bills drafted running back C.J. Spiller with the ninth overall pick in the first round, they knew that there would be some significant criticism, much of it warranted. The Bills had many glaring needs heading into the draft, though running back actually wasn’t one of them. In coach Chan Gailey’s first season with the Bills, he will be facing an extraordinary amount of pressure from a dedicated fan base tired of losing, and selecting Spiller was a very risky play, though one that has considerable upside.
For now at least, Spiller will join Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson in the backfield, though it’s unclear how the Bills will use their varied talents. Journeyman Fred Jackson is easily the most polished back on the Bills roster, though Spiller is clearly the most talented. Even if Jackson lacks the raw natural ability of Lynch and Spiller, he has refined his game considerably over the years and proved in 2009 that he was a patient and highly cerebral back. Even with one of the worst offensive lines in the league, Jackson still averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2009 while Lynch averaged just 3.8. Even if fans are eager to see Spiller on the field, Jackson has gained considerable popularity with Bills fans that should ensure his place in the offense.
Spiller, of course, is a whole different Levitra Professional story than Fred Jackson. He was one of the most electric players in the draft and is actually the type of back that could have a tremendous amount of success in the NFL, which continues to stress patch-catching running backs over downhill runners. With a good pair of hands and unbelievable quickness, Spiller gives the Bills plenty of options offensively, which will be very nice to have considering how lackluster they have been in that department in recent years. In the short term, Spiller will also sell plenty of Buffalo Bills tickets.
The other leg of the trifecta is Lynch, who has had a troubled career so far in Buffalo, both on and off the field. Though originally beloved in Buffalo for his hard running, something he has continued, Lynch hasn’t developed the vision needed to be a top-tier running back in the NFL. While Jackson has had to develop his game, Lynch has had trouble in the NFL after simply being more physically talented than the opposition in college. As of now, Lynch has to be considered the third option at running back.
For a little while, it appeared that the Bills were even looking to ship out Lynch, though the trade rumors evaporated once everyone in the league realized the Bills were looking for a trade partner. If the Bills are to ever get any value out of Lynch, they’ll need to get him some goal line carries to make him more appealing to other teams. The problem is that it may be very difficult to get Lynch on the field, as he lacks the refined game of Jackson and the homerun ability of Spiller.
In a very difficult division, possibly the toughest in the entire league, the new coaching staff headed by Gaily is also going to be under considerable pressure to get the franchise moving in the right direction. After using the their first-round pick on a running back instead of addressing the offensive or defensive line, Gaily needs to find a way to make Viagra Professional his running back corps the strength of the team. Bills fans aren’t expecting a playoff appearance this year with issues at quarterback and in the trenches, but Spiller, Jackson and Lynch can give fans something to cheer about while they try to develop one of their quarterbacks.
And the upside of drafting Spiller is that a couple big plays can instantly negate the criticism of naysayers who wanted to play it safe and draft an offensive tackle in the first round. The Bills are in need of some excitement and he should be able to provide plenty of that, if nothing else.
