The trouble with training yourself is that you have to check all of your own work, and you won’t have a mentor to help you through it all. It really helps to have a mentor guiding you through the process.

You also finish without anything to show potential employers. They have only your word for it that you did a great job on your studies. This can be a huge disadvantage when applying for work.

So How Do Self Trained Medical Transcriptionists Find Work?

It’s a challenge to land that first job if you haven’t gone through formal training, even when you use the right training materials. You’re going to have to work harder at it. But it may not be impossible.

You can send inquiries to various medical transcription services and see if anyone will give you the chance to take their employment test. Many won’t, but you might find one that will.
