Debuting in Denver – The Fray

Denver is a gorgeous city in Colorado. There are plenty of things to do here including enjoying the music that comes from the area.

There are many famous groups and individuals who have gotten their start in Denver. One such group is known as The Fray, a piano, alternative, pop rock group who has gained even international attention.

This is how they got their start in the great city of Denver which produces much talent. Come visit the city soon and explore why so much great talent is coming from the area.

Perhaps it is the beautiful and inspirational scenery or the many outdoor activities that inspire musical artists. But for some reason or another, The Fray has produced some great hits that will be remembered forever by many.

They are an American four piece alternative rock band from Denver, Colorado. They started in 2002 as schoolmates looking for some success and a way to spread their musical talents.

Already, by 2005, they had achieved mainstream success with the release of their debut album, How to Save a Life which was certified double platinum by the RIAA and platinum in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Their first single from the album, “Over My Head (Cable Car)” became a top ten hit instantly in the United States. Their second single, “How to Save a Life” then took the band to worldwide fame.

The song charted in the top three of the Billboard Hot 100 and was a top 5 single in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Already, the world had seen what great things this new band could do from Denver, Colorado.

Later, in 2009, Viagra Professional they released their second self-titled album which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. It was also certified gold in the United States, Australia and Canada.

It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2010. Though it found success, this group faced some mixed reviews and receptions.

However, they were ranked #84 on Billboard’s “Artists of the Decade” list. Despite their success, people and critics will continue to speculate the level of talent coming from Denver.

The Fray’s interesting use of the piano as their lead instrument that produces their sound has driven many to compare them to English piano based bands such as Coldplay and Keane. They distinguish themselves not only by being American but by having interesting vocals and unique lyrics.

They list their influences as Counting Crows, Better than Ezra, Radiohead and U2. No doubt their entire bringing up has contributed to their creativity and musicianship today.

They began as schoolmates, Isaac Slade and Joe King. They were originally a two man show.

Later on, they added Zach Johnson on the drums and Slade’s younger brother Caleb on the bass. Caleb was the band’s first (and only official) bass player before he was asked to leave.

His departure caused a rift in their relationship, especially with his brother Isaac. This split eventually led the group to write the song “Over My Head (Cable Car)”.

Thus, the song is about the brothers’ on the rocks relationship. After that occurred, Johnson also left the band, but to attend an art school in New York to pursue his education.

However, the show must go on and so they hired replacements. This is when the band came together and formed themselves as The Fray.

The name originally came from all the bickering and frequent quarrels that occurred while they tried to compose the lyrics in their songs. However, they have come out Levitra Professional to say that now, they are usually on good terms while composing their music and acknowledge contributions from all members.

They built up local fame in Denver with their first two releases Movement EP and Reason EP. They immediately gained local reviews in newsweekly which were mostly positive and tried to get played on the radio.

The first station, Denver KTCL, rejected eight of their songs before the band decided to submit a demo of “Cable Car.” After the radio played their song, they quickly began receiving many requests for the song to be played.

So, that is how they got their start which led to what they are today. Denver was the start of it all.
