There are lots of things to do in New York State like visiting the culture and history that are unique to the area. One of those great traditions lies in the campus that consumes the city and is known as New York University.

While you are in the area, you can visit the institution that educates many from around the world. It is a beautiful and world renowned institution.

NYU is a private, nonsectarian research university that is based in New York City. Its main campus is settled in Greenwich Village, a section of Manhattan.

It is the largest private, nonprofit institution of higher education in the United States and was founded in 1831. It is consistently ranked as a leading academic institution in the world.

It is organized into 18 schools, colleges and institutions which are all located in six centers throughout Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn as well as other places across the globe. Additionally, NYUhas many study abroad facilities in London, Paris, Florence, Prague, Madrid, Berlin, Accra, Shanghai, Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv.

There is also the Singapore campus of the Tisch School of Arts which will open a comprehensive liberal arts campus in Abu Dhabi in 2010 and a site in Washington, D.C. in 2012. They are clearly an institution of forward thinking, welcoming ideas and acceptance of a broad education.

NYU has 12,500 residents and has the seventh largest university housing system in the United States, the largest out of all the private schools. You can visit the home to the first fraternities in the country and see where they were formed.

Their colors are violet and white as sported by their sports teams called the Violets. The school mascot, however, is a bobcat.

Nearly all of their sports teams participate in the NCAA’s Division III and the University Athletic Association while they do not currently have a varsity football team. They have had All-American football players attend their school, but the team has not been up and running since the 1960s.

NYU is a very prestigious school and is home to 33 Nobel Prize winners, 3 Abel Prize winners, 16 Pulitzer Prize winners, 19 Academy Award winners as well as Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winners. Additionally, NYU has MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowship holders.

They also have National Academy of Sciences members Kamagra Gold among its past and present graduates and faculty. There are many talented students here who are still learning and growing as individuals.

After all, their motto is “to preserve and to excel.” It is no wonder why this university has gone above and beyond for many years and has a tradition of excellence.

While you are in New York and looking for something to do, you can tour around campus. It is quite the adventure as it is spread all about the city.

Most of the university’s buildings are located on about 229 acres set apart by Houston Street to the south, Broadway to the east, 14th Street to the north and Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) to the west. The core of their campus exists in buildings surrounding Washington Square Park.

This has been the center of the university since the late 1970s. It is an unofficial symbol of NYU as it is public property including the Washington Square Arch.

This is where they have all their commencement ceremonies, but they have recently moved to Yankee Stadium in 2008 because of renovations to Washington Square.

In the 1990s, NYU became a two square university by building a second community around Union Square which is about a ten minute walk from Washington Square. Union Square consists mostly of the sophomore priority residence halls of Carlyle Court, Palladium Residence Hall, Alumni Hall, Coral Tower, Thirteenth Street Hall, University Hall and freshmen residence hall Third North Residence Hall.

The Bobst Library is certainly something you will want to see for yourself. It is one of the largest academic libraries in the United States at 12 stories, 425,000 square feet.

It was designed by Philip Johnson and Richard Foster. It is visited by over 6,800 users daily and circulates more than one million books annually.

There are many locations throughout New York to visit the tradition and honor of NYU. The next time you are in the area, you should schedule a tour.
