Fox’s one-hour musical comedy Glee may only be in its first season, but Glee mania has swept the nation nonetheless, and the show is jumping off the big screen and onto the road in May. The stars of Glee-Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Argon (Quinn), Jenna Ushkowittz (Tina) and Kevin McHale (Artie)-will kick off their live tour in Phoenix, Ariz. on May 18. Show creator Ryan Murphy (also known for creating Nip/Tuck) told MTV News, “The response of the fans to our little show has been so immediate and so gratifying, we wanted to get out and thank them live and in person. And what show lends itself more to a concert than Glee? We can’t wait to take this show on the road, and the actors couldn’t be more excited to perform live for audiences in these four cities.” Audiences likely can’t wait to see the show either!
For those who have yet to fall in love with Glee, the Fox show follows sanguine teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) as he attempts to resurrect McKinley High School’s Glee Club-and helps out a group of misfits while he’s at it. The show’s colorful cast of character includes Kurt (Chris Colfer), a soprano and fashionista; Mercedes (Amber Riley) a diva Cialis Professional whose loud voice matches her personality; Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), a punk rocker who uses her blue hair and dark clothing to mask her stutter and Artie (Kevin McHale), a geek who is masterful with a guitar.
Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), a confident singer who is hoping to rise to fame with the help of show choir and her MySpace page and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), the dreamy high school quarterback who copes with bigheaded teammate Puck (Mark Salling) and haughty girlfriend, head “Cheerios” cheerleader Quinn (Dianna Agron), are the two biggest talents in the batch of McKinley High School students.
As entertaining as the students at McKinley High are, the teachers are just as amusing! Will’s only ally at the school is Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays), a germaphobe teacher, while he encounters resistance in his quest to save the Glee Club from obscurity from everyone else, including his wife, Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig), and McKinley’s conniving cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (played by the hilarious Jane Lynch). Glee took home the Golden Globe for Best Television Series -Musical or Comedy, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and most recently the Best Comedy Series honor at the GLAAD Awards.
Glee: The Music, Volume 3- Showstoppers, the next soundtrack for Glee, is expected to arrive the same day that the cast hits the road on tour, May 18.
