We all have heard the stereotype of “soccer mom”. And we might have known one in our lifetime.

It’s the cheerful mom that has the gigantic minivan that can basically fit the whole children’s team. She transports the team to and from every game, every practice, and basically anything else that she wants the children to see!

Aside from that, there can also be other negative views of the soccer mom. She might be on the sidelines at practice supporting her kid, but she will be doing it a little bit differently than the other parents on the field.

She might yell and scream at her child and even the other team members. She might even overstep her boundaries and try to tell the coach what to do better.

This is not a good way to make your friends with your kid’s coach, or even the parents of the other kids. You will quickly be the black sheep of the whole team and not many people will like you.

Luckily, you can still be a supportive sporty mom without being annoying. You just have to make sure that you are doing the right things instead of the wrong things.

So how exactly do you know what the right things are. Here is a great “code of conduct” that you can follow so you can be the best supportive mom there is on the field.

First, it’s very important to support your child as much as you can with their passion. At first, this means going to all their games and being there for them.

You can’t be a good soccer mom if you have excuses and can’t make it to your child’s games. Being there as much as possible will show your kids that you love them and that you share their passion for the sport.

Next, you need to practice correct etiquette when you are on the field. Doing so can be the difference between you being a joyful addition to the operation, or a dreadful one.

Make sure to be courteous to everyone on and off the field both during practice and at games. Many parents fail to do this.

They get too focused on only their child doing well, and they forget that it is a team sport. Proudly encouraging all of the team can boost their morale and help them win the game.

This also means not demeaning the other team or the other team’s parents. It is extremely rude to cut down other players while they are playing or talk down to other parents.

Next, you also need to respect the coach as well as the other people at the practices or the games. You need to understand that they are the ultimate authority of the whole operation.

Many think that they might know more about the sport than the coach and will try to help the coach do his job. This is not only really annoying but really disrespectful to the head authority.

Let the coach do his job because he knows what he is doing. If they are a good coach, they will always do what is best for your child and for the team.

Finally, there are many other ways that you can support your child. You don’t have to just be a prop on the sideline that is just there to watch.

There are many ways that you can volunteer for your son or daughter’s team. One good way is to ask the coaches if they need any help.

Many times, they need help with bookkeeping or organizing events or parties. Taking some initiative and volunteering to help will put you on their good side and help you gain more exciting responsibilities in the future.

You can also set up an after-game snack schedule so that other parents can get involved too. Send out an e-mail to all the parents asking them when they can bring simple treats for the players to have when they are tired.
