Kid Rock Tickets – Kid Rock Plays Host at Country Music Television Awards
While hosting the Country Music Television Awards on June 9, Kid Rock came onto the stage at one point smoking a cigar and was spotted taking shots backstage in his dressing room-but would you expect anything less? When it was announced that he would host the awards show back in April, he wrote on his website, “All I can promise is I will be awesome.” And awesome he was, kicking off the show with a medley of “Cowboy,” “Bawitdaba” and “Good Ol’ Boys” with Hank Williams Jr., Trace Adkins, Zac Brown, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Martina McBride and Kellie Pickler.
The 2010 CMT Awards were held at Bridgestone Arena in the country music capital of Nashville and, like usual, the show strayed from the standard stuffy awards show atmosphere. Prior to the show, Kid Rock told Billboard.com what made him take on the hosting duties, saying, “You go to the Grammys, and it’s very serious. You’re just like, ‘Man everyone lighten up a little bit. It’s fun. It’s music. Let’s celebrate.’ And that’s just kind of the atmosphere at the CMT Awards, just really laid back, really fun, got some over-the-top performances, a little riff raff here and there. It just creates for a good atmosphere, good time.”
Although Kid Rock is known primarily for his rock music-much like his name would suggest-the Detroit native has made Nashville, Tenn. his second home throughout the years. He has collaborated with country artists like Willie Nelson, Gretchen Wilson and the Zac Brown Band and scored his own hit country song “All Summer Long” in 2008. The infectious track was a Top Five hit on the Country Singles charts and the video earned a CMT Award last year. Kid Rock also taped an episode of CMT Crossroads with country mainstay in 2001 and had another country hit in 2002 with his duet with Sheryl Crow titled “Picture.”
Speaking about his crossover appeal, Kid told Billboard online, “I’d like to say it’s because I’m skinny. I’m cute. I’m fun at parties, but I don’t think that’s the real reason. I think it boils down to the music, maybe the honesty if I had to take a guess.” Judging from his performance and hosting at the CMT Awards, Kid Rock is right at home in the country music scene.
During the show he made reference to Kanye West’s infamous Taylor Swift interruption at the MTV Awards, saying, “Anyone thinking about grabbing a mic, myself or Bocephus will personally punch you in the mouth, all right? We might even get Trace Adkins on the deal.” Kid Rock presented the final award of the night with Sheryl Crow, with whom he recently dueted on “Picture,” and shocked the audience by asking her, “Will you just have my baby and let’s get it over?” Crow, who recently adopted her second son, quipped in response, “If it’s a girl, maybe.”
No one ever said Tadacip Kid Rock wasn’t cocky. This is the artist who titled his most recent album Rock N Roll Jesus, after all! He will release the follow-up to 2007’s Rock n Roll Jesus , which is tentatively titled Born Free, on Sept. 7. The forthcoming album sees him collaborating with the likes of Martina McBride and T.I. (“Care”), Zac Brown (“Flying High”) and Brand Levitra Sheryl Crow (“Collide”-which also features Bob Seger on piano!).
