Lollapalooza Tickets – Lollapalooza 2010 Lineup Impresses Once Again

After months of anticipation, festival organizers for this summer’s Lollapalooza Festival finally gave up the goods and announced the lineup on April 6. In March, festival organizers began to leak information about Lollapalooza 2010 via a Wheel of Fortune-meets-hangman game on its official website. Pollstar.com reported that as of March 31 organizers revealed that every “O” contained in the bands’ named booked for Lollapalooza and “R” was added the following day. The speculation about performers heated up and all questions were answered on April 6, when the headliners were announced to be Green Day, Phoenix and The Strokes.

Also headlining Lollapalooza at Chicago’s Grant Park Aug. 6-8 will be Lady Gaga and the reunited Seattle quartet Soundgarden. The impressive bill also features Arcade Fire, MGMT, Social Distortion, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip, the Black Keys, Spoon, Devo, Cypress Hill, the National, Cut Copy, Erykah Badu, Slightly Stoopid, the Brand Levitra New Pornographers, Wolfmother, Yeasayer, X Japan, Grizzly Bear, Gogol Bordello, Matt & Kim, Chromeo, Metric, AFI, Dirty Projectors, Mavis Staples, MUTEMATH, the xx, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Drive-By Truckers, Blues Traveler, the Walkmen and many more. Festival founder and Jane’s Addiction founder Perry Farrell will be among the DJs “Spinning at Perry’s” along with Empire of the Sun, Tiga, Felix Da Housecat, 2ManyDJs, Digitalism, Kaskade, Rusko and Erol Alkan.

Billboard.com reported that Soundgarden announced plans to reunite for shows in 2010 via a Twitter message from frontman Chris Cornell on New Year’s Eve. Lollapalooza is the first confirmed appearance since the band-which also features Kim Thayil (bass), Ben Shepherd (bass) and Matt Cameron (drums)-splintered in 1997. Lollapalooza is the only confirmed 2010 gig for Arcade Fire and the Strokes; both bands are expected to release new albums this year. As for fellow headliner Lady Gaga, her Lollapalooza appearance comes in the midst of her previously announced Monster’s Ball Tour, which sees the “Telephone” singer delivering her shocking live shows at arena throughout North America in the coming months.

Perry Farrell created Lollapalooza to serve as Jane’s Addiction’s farewell tour in 1991, and in its inaugural year the festival features performances by his band, Nine Inch Nails, Siouxie and the Banshees, Butthole Surfers, Fishbone and others. Lollapalooza ran annually until 1997 before shutting down. Luckily for rock fans, Farrell revived the festival in 2001. Although Lollapalooza suffered a setback when it was cancelled in 2004 due to poor tickets sales, it remerged in its current Cialis incarnation as a three-day destination festival in Chicago in 2005. Last year, Farrell and the rest of the newly-reunited Jane’s Addiction shared the Lollapalooza headlining spot with Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon, the Killers, Snoop Dogg, Vampire Weekend, Kaiser Chiefs, Cold War Kids, Deerhunter and Silversun Pickups. Farrell & Co. closed out the 2009 edition of Lollapalooza with a set list that made up for its short length (12 songs) by being packed with hits. After opening with “Up the Beach,” Jane’s Addiction continued to play tracks like “Mountain Song,” “Ocean Size” and “Jane Says.”
