NBA Finals Tickets – Ray Allen is Playing His Way to Another Big Contract
Ray Allen has a stroke so pure that director Spike Lee had to cast him in “He Got Game” even though Allen had no acting training whatsoever. More than a decade after the release of “He Got Game,” Allen still has the best shot in the entire NBA, which the Los Angeles Lakers found out firsthand when Ray-Ray went off for an NBA Finals record eight three-pointers in game two. With his ability to score in bunches, Allen can still sell plenty of NBA Finals tickets but also is reminding teams that he is still deserving of another contract, and could be a nice addition to a team with aspirations on taking down an NBA title.
Looking at his career stats, one might think that Allen is in a period of decline, though this would be very misleading. Allen’s 16.3 points per game were the lowest since his rookie season, but this had much more to do with the rise of Rajon Rondo than anything else. Though he’s scoring a bit less than he used to, Allen remained highly efficient and posted a field goal percentage of .477 this past regular Tadacip season, which is one of the highest totals in his career and well above his career average. While most shooters see declining shooting numbers at the tail end of their careers, Allen remains in top-notch physical shape, which has allowed him to continue to be a highly effective perimeter player.
But the regular season numbers of Allen only tell a very small part of the story. As we continue to see in big games throughout this postseason, Allen is still the type of veteran scorer who can carry a team if he gets going and doesn’t need to dominate the ball to be effective. While many role players on a team have historically struggled in big road playoff games, Allen has ice water in his veins and can lead by example, whether at home or on the road.
Clearly the days of Allen being a 25+ point-per-game scorer are in the past, which is why he won’t get a gigantic contract after the Finals wrap and he hits free agency. Still, Allen would be a perfect fit for a team with a few nice pieces already in place. Because his contract won’t be too large, he should be a very good value for a team that needs a shooting guard with postseason experience and the ability to carry a team offensively for stretches.
With the NBA owners and GMs all no doubt taking notice of Allen’s performance this postseason, certainly the Celtics have to seriously consider re-signing him. The Celtics are already locked in with Kevin Garnett for a couple more seasons and will essentially get a chance to get Allen for a discount. Though many speculated that Levitra the Celtics were clearly on the downswing, the impressive play of rising star Rajon Rondo could definitely give the Celtics a couple more years to be one of the top teams in the East.
Without Allen, the Celtics will be in desperate need of a shooter and would have a hard time finding another player who can step in and develop similar chemistry with Rondo. With Allen, though, the Celtics still have a championship caliber team that can stretch the floor, making it very difficult for defenses in terms of spacing and matchups. We’ll see if it’s enough to take down the Lakers, but Allen has already made his statement to the rest of the league.
