New York Mets Tickets – David Wright Having Surprising MVP-Caliber Season
The New York Mets needed a big year out of David Wright to have any chance of competing in the NL East. Well, so far so good. Though he was struggling at times in the early going, Wright has broke out in a big way in June, giving him legitimate MVP numbers as we approach the halfway point of the season. With Wright in the middle of the lineup, the Mets have been on fire and were just a half-game out of first place as of June 17th. With the Braves and the Phillies in the division, the Silagra surprising Mets could make it a three-team race that could go down to the wire.
Last season, the first in the Mets’ new ballpark, everyone lamented how hard it was to hit home runs, which may have contributed to Wright having a career-low 10 round-trippers. But the Mets had many more problems than just Citi Field. First baseman Carlos Delgado was clearly declining and providing no protection for Wright in the heart of the lineup. Jose Reyes also was out for most of the season, making it much easier to feed Wright breaking pitches and limit fastballs. Though Wright continued to have a very high average last season, there was simply too much of a talent gap throughout the rest of their lineup to compete.
This season, though, Wright has gotten right back on track. With the addition of Jason Bay into the lineup and Jose Reyes back for much of the year, Wright has quietly been one of the best hitters in the National League. As of June 17th, Wright had had 12 home runs and a league-leading 52 RBIs to go with a solid .291 batting average. In June, Wright is straight up mashing, with a batting average over .400 and 18 RBIs, helping lead the Mets to a six-game winning streak. And Wright has always helped sell plenty of New York Mets tickets.
The Mets’ pitching has also been surprisingly strong, starting with ace Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey. Palfrey in particular has been lights out, posting a 9-1 record and an ERA of 2.39 in 14 starts. Though Pelfrey hasn’t been included in the Cy Young discussion much this season, with most assuming he’ll eventually come back down to earth, he continues to put up quality starts nearly every outing. It’s still an unbelievable long shot but Pelfrey could get a couple Cy Young votes if he can approach 20 wins. The bullpen has also been fairly solid, led by closer Francisco Rodriguez. With a WHIP of 1.14 and 14 saves, Rodriguez continues to be a good door-slammer at the back end of the Mets bullpen.
But it all starts with David Wright, who has been the Mets’ best player for much of his career so far in New York. If Wright can keep it up with Carlos Beltran scheduled to get back into the lineup at some point this summer the Mets could push for a division title – or a Wild Card at the very least. With the Mets being up and down the last few seasons, Wright simply Brand Cialis continues to be their one steady player, and one that team seems to be rallying around nicely.
