Phish Tickets – Phish Embarks Upon Tour of Native Northeast

Vermont-hailing jam band Phish returned to their native northeast on July 17, launching the northeastern leg of their massive summer tour in Hartford, Conn. one week after kicking off their trek in Bridgeview, Ill. While Phish debuted two original songs-“Show of Life” and “Idea”-and three new cover songs-The Band’s “Look Out Cleveland,” John Lennon’s “Instant Karma” and Tom Waits’ “Cold Water”-at Bridgeview, Illinois’ Toyota prescription cialis generic Park, the band was more focused on performing songs spanning their quarter-century career at their Connecticut gig, reports Rolling Stone.

Phish opened its 95-minute first set with the Latin-flavored track “Punch You in the Eye” before celebrating their 2009 reunion-which followed a four-year breakup-with tracks like “Ocelot,” “Sugar Shack,” “Dinner and a Movie,” “Stash,” “Alaska” and more. Trey Anastasio & Co. opened their second set with the title track of Party Time, which was appropriately followed by “Down with Disease,” “Sand,” “The Horse” and “Silent in the Morning.” After a few more songs, Phish closed the first gig of its two-night stand with a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light,” the last track on the Stones’ Exile on Main Street (which Phish covered in its entirety on Halloween 2009).

Phish phans can get Phish tickets to see the legendary jam band perform in cities like Columbia, Md.; Raleigh, N.C.; Alpharetta, Ga.; Berkeley, Calif.; Noblesville, Ind.; East Troy, Mich.; Wantagh, N.Y. and more through mid-August. The band is also poised to headline the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. Phish joins the Strokes, the Eagles, M.I.A., the Flaming Lips, Muse and Vampire Weekend on the diverse bill for the 2010 edition of ACL, to be held in its usual Zilker Park location Oct. 8-10. ACL will be the only time Phish will perform in the Lone Star State in 2010.

Although nothing compares to seeing the band live, Phish phans rushed to theaters to see Phish 3D when the concert movie arrived in theaters in late April. Phish 3D was filmed over three days in October at Phish’s Festival 8 in Indio, Calif. and boasts field-wide and close-up shots of the band performing staples (think “AC/DC Bag,” “Maze,” “Mike’s Song” and “Tweezers”) as well as tracks off the band’s 2009 album Joy (like “Stealing Time from the Faulty Pan”). Rolling Stone reports that prior to the film’s nationwide release, Phish phans flocked to Brooklyn to see a sold-out preview screening on April 20.

Phish 3D also featured the Vermont-bred band covering the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street. Phish has made a tradition out of covering an iconic album by another band during their Halloween weekend music events, dubbed “musical costuming.” In the past, Phish has performed Genesis’ Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Radiohead’s Kid A, MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular, Prince’s Purple Rain, King Crimson’s Lark Tongues in Aspic, David Bowie’s Hunky Dory and Jimi Hendrix’s Kamagra Electric Ladyland. In May, Phish performed “Loving Cup” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’s tribute to the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street.
