Running a Successful Home-Based Business While Raising Kids

Hundreds of people around the world are starting up home-based businesses. Whether they want to escape the claustrophobic confines of an office or they just want to be their own boss, it is a lucrative decision.

There can be so many advantages to starting your own business in the home, but you need to understand that there will still be a need for sacrifices. You aren’t entirely free and off the hook!

This is especially true for those stay-at-home moms who decide that they want to be an in-home entrepreneur. For them, making that transition can be the most difficult out of anybody.

Here is where the dilemma comes: your children mean the world to you and you want to spend as much time as you can with them. That’s why you opted to start your local company in the first place.

But despite your children being there and vying for your attention, there still is work to be done. There is still time that you need to totally concentrate on growing your business and gaining a clientele.

Many women feel guilty once they start working at home because they feel that they are not spending enough time with their children. Others feel that they get too distracted by their kids and are not spending enough time with their professional duties.

Is there a happy medium between these two scenarios? Luckily, there is; and I am here to tell you how to find it!

It is obvious that many stay-at-home moms will struggle with these dilemmas. Here are some tips that you can follow to make sure your life is balanced between your family and your profession:

Create a routine: This is a key concept to understand. Using it will quickly give you much more time to focus on your burgeoning business.

There needs to be a daily routine that you create that you will always follow no matter what. If you don’t have a routine, you can easily get distracted and do other things besides work.

If you don’t have a routine, you might be working and something will come up concerning your kids (and trust me, this will happen a lot!). Your kids will probably always win against work.

Don’t let this make you unproductive. Set a certain chunk of the day aside and give your full attention to work at that time.

It’s not that you will totally ignore your kids, but you can tell them that they can only come and talk to you if it is an emergency. Your kids will bother you much less and you can focus all your energy on what is most important for you company.

Have kid time: This same concept can be flipped around and be applied to spending time with your kids. Besides, your kids still need time with you, too!

Set aside a certain amount of time each day to help your children with your school, take them shopping, or simply have fun with them. By doing this, will know that they are still very important to you.

In addition to that, they will be less inclined to bother you during your work time because they know they will have time with you at a different time of the day. Simply put, having a set schedule that involves work and your offspring will be so beneficial to you!

Set rules with your kids: No client wants to come into a circus house to do business with you. This is why you need to set firm rules with your children regarding your company.

In addition to setting the rule of your children not bothering you when you are working, you also need to set additional ones to create more order. For example, you can set rules regarding how to answer the phone when a client calls or open the door when a client visits.

You can even make sure your children know that they need to act properly when you have business guests in your house. This can make all the difference, as rowdy kids can make a client feel uncomfortable and less incline to do business with you.
