Things to Do in Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia is an exciting city to visit. This southern city has so much to offer visitors.
It also has plenty to offer locals just looking for a good time. If you are headed to Atlanta or if you live there and are looking for some good entertainment, here are the best places to visit and to eat.
First thing to do is check out the Centennial Olympic Park. This 21-acre complex was developed with the 1996 Summer Olympics in mind.
It is a fun place to visit and offers a piece of Georgia history. It is also home to the world’s largest fountain, The Fountain of Rings, which features synchronized water dances.
This fountain is also close to the all children’s playground. Next stop, check out the Georgia Aquarium.
Many people call it the “world’s largest aquarium” because it contains 8 million gallons of water and has the biggest collection of marine animals in the world. Some animals you might see here are otters, penguins, sea turtles, whale sharks, beluga whales and sea lions.
This attraction is sure to be a hit among visitors of all ages. Located just a few steps from the aquarium is the World of Coca Cola.
Here you can learn all about the history of Coca-Cola and even enter the tasting lounge where 70 beverages from around the world can be sampled. While in Atlanta you must stop at the most popular attraction, Stone Mountain.
This resort is home to the world’s largest relief carving on the face of an 825 foot granite mountain. Each night the Stone Mountain also plays a role as the backdrop to a laser and light show.
However, this is not all Stone Mountain Park has to offer. Visitors can also ride a Summit Skyride cable car to the top of the mountain to get a better view of the carvings.
You can also ride a locomotive around the base of the mountain or take a paddleboat cruise on Stone Mountain Lake. There is also a funhouse for kids with slides, trampoline floors and climbing structures.
One last thing to do here is check out Sky Hike, which is the largest family adventure course in the country. This course features wooden bridges and rope courses.
The Stone Mountain Park is a sure place to have a good time. Atlanta is also home to many theme parks.
Six Flags Over Georgia has plenty of rides and shows for all ages. Also in Georgia is the largest water park in the South, Six Flags White Water.
Visitors will find huge water slides, a lazy river and plenty of other attractions. It is a great place to cool off and to beat the summer heat.
A few other fun spots for kids in Atlanta are: The Center for Puppetry Arts, Wren’s Nest House Museum, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Zoo Atlanta, and Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. A few attraction that may be more interesting to adults are: the Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, a CNN Studio Tour, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, Margaret Mitchell House, and the High Museum Tadacip of Art.
For those who love the outdoors, Piedmont Park is a great place to visit. This park has lush woods, a lake, picnic spots, annual events and skating paths.
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens is another outdoor space to visit. This peaceful garden is 30 acres and has so many plants to enjoy.
For those sports lovers, Atlanta is definitely not lacking in that department. Check out a Braves baseball game, a Falcons football game, a Hawks basketball game, or a Thrashers hockey game.
No matter what time of year it is, you are sure to find some sporting event taking place in this city. Atlanta is also home to many fine theatrical productions and live performances.
A few places worth mentioning are the Alliance Theatre, the Opera and Ballet, and the Symphony Orchestra. After seeing all of these amazing attractions, you are sure to get hungry.
