Tooth Lover: My Career as a Dental Hygienist

It may sound odd but I have always been fascinated by teeth. Why are they white? Why does a smile seem incomplete without them? How can we grind our food by using our teeth? These and other questions have bounced around my mind for a while. With teeth our smile is wonderful and our face is more beautiful than ever. Our teeth often add personality to the way we look.

As a child I would dream of being a dentist and would act like one during my playtime with my sister and neighbors. Playing a dentist made me happy because it was something I imagined myself doing as an adult. In a way it made me feel like an adult. My parents supported me at a young age by buying me toys related to being a dentist, even though they knew children change their minds and interests frequently. They even gave me a dentist costume for Halloween, which I wore trick or treating around the neighborhood. It made me feel like I was actually a dentist. As I grew up, I took good care of my teeth. I followed my dentist’s instructions, and if anything happened to my teeth I called my dentist at once.

When I reached college age I was still very interested in teeth, and it dawned on me that I was at the age where I could start studying to become a dental professional. Shortly after this I began looking for schools with dental programs. Once I started the program, I discovered that the process for becoming a dentist is not as easy as I originally thought. It involved more schooling than I wanted to take, and more money than I could afford. That’s when I discovered the dental hygienist program. I found it was similar to being a dentist, but it did not have all the responsibilities. It was a great option for me because it would allow me to reach my goal of being a dental professional without putting me in debt for a very long time.

When I entered the dental hygienist program I learned a lot. I learned about the technical aspects of the job, but I also learned about some of the unwritten rules. A Brand Levitra dental hygienist, like a dentist, needs to show they follow their own instructions by having clean teeth. Since I had already taken good care of my teeth it was never hard for me to meet this ungraded requirement. I also had to consider the fact that I would encounter patients who are not rich. I knew I wanted to work at an office that would provide their services to these people at prices they can afford, so they will not be deprived of getting their teeth clean and cavity Cialis free.

After graduation I found a job at an office that cares about their patients and is mindful of their financial situations. My day to day life is usually filled with smiles and thank-yous, which motivates me. I know that every day in the office I will make another patient happy by relieving their pain and hopefully their anxiety. Sometimes my passion for being a dental hygienist begins to wear out, but I know every day serves as a new challenge for me, and I just have to pick myself up and move forward. I fondly remember my days of playing around, but today I’m not playing anymore and I’m now doing this in real life. I never imagined how happy I could be when I see somebody smile, and I know that behind that smile is a dental hygienist who has helped to maintain it.
