Top 5 Hip Hop Ringtones
Ever since rap music was born people have been using it as a way to communicate things about themselves, whether that’s partaking in the music itself; DJing, MCing or beatboxing, or as a breakdancer or graffiti artist. Hip hop (the larger cultural movement rather than specific genre of music) all began in the poor South Bronx of New York City in the 1970s, and has become increasingly focused on money and material possessions.
You may have noticed on the bus or train recently, the new to communicate things about yourself is via your phone. By setting up music ringtones hip-hoppers can be reminded of their favourite rap classic every time the phone rings. Here are five of the best hip hop ringtones available.
50 Cent – In Da Club
Curtis James Jackson III broke into the mainstream with the release of his 2003 album ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and the number one single, ‘In Da Club’. He’s sold more than 26 million albums worldwide, and continues to dominate rap music.
Lil Wayne – Go D.J
Dwayne Michael Carter Junior is from New Orleans, and after joining his first rap group aged nine, he moved onto small success with Hoy Boys (with Juvenile, BG and Turk). In 1999 he released his debut album ‘Tha Block Is Hot’ which sold over one million copies in the US.
Kanye West – Stronger
Kanye West has received a lot of attention in the last few years, particularly as his music is strongly influenced by R&B, rock, folk, electronica and synth pop. ‘Stronger’ sampled a Daft Punk song and has been one of his biggest hits to date. He is also a well-respected producer, having twiddling knobs for Jay-Z’s The Blueprint as well as other projects for Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Janet Jackson.
Tupac – California love
Tupac Amaru Shakur is also known as 2Pac, Pac and Makaveli to some, and was one of the biggest selling hip hop artists of all time, shifting over 75 million albums world wide. Most of his songs are about growing up in the ghetto, experiencing violence, Cialis racism, broken society and other rappers. ‘California Love’ is more of a feel-good summer song, and this is why it has become such a popular hip hop ringtone.
Snoop Doggy Dogg – Gz and Hustlas
Cordozar Calvin Broadus is a West Coast rapper and apprentice of Dr. Dre. After a brief spell in prison thanks to cocaine possession he launched into an incredibly successful career as a rapper and actor. Taken from Snoop’s classic Doggystyle album from 1993, ‘Gz Tadalis SX and Hustlas’ is another feel-good tune, with Snoop bigging up all his friends and associates.
