Going into the Masters tournament, Phil Mickelson wasn’t the focus of attention. Not even close. Instead, all eyes were obediently trained on the oft-covered Tiger Woods, told to focus on him because of his cringe-worthy antics that landed him on nearly every entertainment news site (and hard news site, for that matter) in the world.

For those who have lived under a rock for the past several months, here’s a recap: Woods had a car accident outside of his home in the middle of the night in November 2009. Following the accident, reports of multiple extra-marital affairs with less-than-chaste women surfaced, causing him to take a leave from golf and enter sex rehab. He eventually graduated from in-patient treatment and decided to return to golf at the 2010 Masters.

From the very beginning of the Masters tournament, Woods’ every move was followed. In the fray of media attention, Mickelson quietly showed why he is also a star, and ended up with the Green Jacket. He finished 16 under par with a total score of 272. He was followed by Lee Westwood in second (13 under) and Anthony Kim in third (12 under). Woods finished tied for fourth with K.J. Mickelson may have set himself apart from the other in terms of golf talent, but his personal life showed an even bigger gap between his personal life and that of Woods’. The PGA Tour will again be in the spotlight from June 17-20 for the U.S. Open Championship. The U.S. Open will take place at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
