When To Replace Your Hard Drive
Having some computer troubles? Often times, when a computer just plain won’t start, it has to do with the hard drive. Sometimes, this may mean that the drive needs to be replaced, other times it might just need a nice reboot. But the last thing you want to do is run out and buy a new one when you don’t need to. You should try a few things before making the purchase…
Switch Computers
Take your drive out and put it in an older PC and see if it will run okay. If it does, then the problem is probably in your motherboard. If this is the case, then you may need a new motherboard, which can cost a few bones, but at least all the data and files on your HD will be okay once you get a new, working tower to put it in.
Start in Safe Mode
Different computers and operating systems use different methods for starting in safe mode, so look up the shortcuts list online if you don’t have it handy. Sometimes, Cialis Jelly all a computer needs is to be restarted Kamagra jelly in safe mode. This is a great way to figure out what the problem is when it’s something more external, like, say, the monitor not matching your resolution or something along those lines. This is always worth a try, as you never know when your computer can be good as new with a simple safe mode reboot.
Try Another HD in the Same Tower
Just as you can switch out your motherboard to check, you can also test by switching out the drive. If another drive works perfectly fine in the same tower, then… Sorry to say, but maybe it is time to buy a new hard drive.
Salvaging the Content
If there’s a whole bunch of stuff you need on your old hard drive, then you might want to take it to a computer repair center, or to a computer hardware savvy friend. They might not be able to save the drive itself, but they might just be able to get all the stuff you need from it and burn it onto a DVD or another HD for you. It’s always a good idea, though, to keep backups of everything you need, either on discs or on another computer or a zip drive or online. This way, when computers fail, you at least won’t have lost a whole lot of work.
