Most recently, the Zac Brown Band entertained concertgoers at the Bonnaroo Music Festival on the event’s main stage. The group, along with country crooner Miranda Lambert, gave the festival a touch more twang than is generally heard at Bonnaroo and attendees certainly seemed to embrace the southern tunes.

In addition to Bonnaroo, the Zac Brown Band recently took over the stage at the 2010 CMT Awards in Nashville. Reba McEntire offered praise for the country group and was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, “I was so thrilled with that performance. I thought it was very gutsy of them, too, not to do their single, but to do a live performance. It was a showstopper. They do go against the grain a lot. They’re kind of renegade in a way, but they back it up.” The Zac Brown Band gave a riveting performance of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Even after performances at Bonnaroo and the CMT Awards, the band has a busy summer schedule ahead of them, with several opening slots for the Dave Matthews Band. They’ve been highly successful with their live shows and Brown was quoted by the AP as saying, “You feed off the crowd. Whatever they give you, as much as they’ll give you, it comes back to us and it makes this big turbine of energy in the room.”

Zac Brown grew up in a small town in the Georgia mountains and was always drawn to music. He finally decided to pursue it full time in 2001 and dropped out of school to start his own band. A couple of years later he started his own Home Grown record label and issued Home Grown and Live from the Rock Bus Tour. They gained a small following by playing at various country blubs as well as folk and jam music festivals. Their big break came in 2008 when the Zac Brown Band released Foundation, which spurred their hit single “Chicken Fried.”

In addition to releasing his own tracks, Zac Brown has also signed several notable artists to his label including the Sonia Leigh Band, Levi Lowrey and Nic Cowan. For all of their efforts in the industry, the Zac Brown Band was awarded the biggest prize of all when they took home the 2010 Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
