Chittorgarh: Tales of valor and sacrifice abound in Chittorgarh, the historic city of Rajasthan. This is the biggest fort in the entire country and was the seat of power for the rulers of Mewar.Chittorgarh has experienced large scale immolations and destruction thrice in its history.Its history speaks of the great Rajput rulers who preferred death to submission to the enemies.
Chittorgarh is often mentioned as a Bhakti aur Shakti ki Nagari (land of devotion & strength) symbolizing the significance of devotion and strength.The main attraction in this city is the Chittorgarh Fort which has experienced invasions and complete destruction at the hands of Muslim rulers.Apart from the Fort, other places of tourist interest include Rana Kumbha’s Palace, Rani Padmini’s Palace, Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambhh, Meera Mandir and the kalika Mata Mandir.
Khajuraho: Khajuraho is a city in the Chhattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh which invokes a feeling of mysticism and eroticism.It is located in the interiors of the district which till a few decades back did not have a proper approach.It is the home to some exquisitely carved Hindu and Jain temples which attract a lot of visitors to the small village.These medieval period temples are famous for their erotic sculpture which is found on the outer walls of the temples.There is no such carving in the inside of the temples.The Khajuraho Temples have been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of India.
Apart from these there are many more heritage cities in India which can include Ujjain, Tanjavur, Bundi, Tiruchirapalli etc.All these cities symbolize the ancient Indian religious and architectural culture of those times.
