Chivas USA Tickets – New Coach Means New Milestones for Chivas USA
Last season, Chivas USA finished in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference, and the offseason brought several changes for the team. One of the biggest was new coach Martin Vasquez. He replaces Predrag “Preki” Radosavljevic, who is now the manager at Toronto FC. Under new leadership, the team struggled to start the season, with losses to the Colorado Rapids and the Los Angeles Galaxy. In their third game, Martin Vasquez had his first victory with a 2-0 win over Red Bull New York on April 10.
The Chivas USA website posted an article about the win in which Vasquez admitted that the victory was a weight off his shoulders. He said after the triumph, “This win feels great. It feels that way because the guys finally get rewarded for all the hard work they do during the week. We lost the first two games, but we came out today and it’s a difficult situation and our team responded.” He may have to get used to the feeling of winning, the team notched another win on April 24 when they topped the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2.
Vasquez is no stranger to the Los Angeles area, as he attended Alhambra High and Cal State Los Angeles. He played on national teams for Mexico and the United States. After his years as a player, Vasquez turned to coaching and served as an assistant for Chivas USA from 2005-2008. In between his time as an assistant and as head coach, he held a position as an assistant at the German club Bayern Munich.
The first win wasn’t the only news for Chivas USA. The team has the chance of landing another star, as Herculez Gomez had revealed that he will train with Chivas USA. Gomez is a star in professional Mexican soccer, which is set to ends its season soon. Gomez is a Los Angeles native who is no stranger to Major League Soccer. He has also played with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids and Kansas City Wizards.
The team is likely looking for stars, as they lost defender Ante Jazic for four to six weeks because of an MCL injury suffered during the team’s win over New York Red Bulls. Forward Maykel Galindo was also injured in the match, but isn’t expected to be out as long. Fans can catch their favorite players by getting Chivas USA tickets online today.
The season may be in full swing, but the team is still finding ways to give back. The latest foray into philanthropy is a partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the LA84 Foundation to further the sport of soccer at 68 schools in the area. According to the team’s website, the team’s president and CEP Shawn Hunter said, “Chivas USA is committed to Los Angeles in a way that goes far beyond simply making this donation. This will be the beginning of a great partnership with LAUSD, and we are excited for the opportunity to help build and maintain strong high school soccer programs that coaches, students, and families can be proud of.”
