Events to Attend in New York
The state of New York is a popular destination for many tourists all over the world. It is home to many exciting attractions and icons of the United States.
Some well-known attractions include the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Niagara Falls, and more. But did you know New York has more than just attractions to offer?
This unique state also features many exciting events throughout the year. Starting in January you will find a Chinese New Year celebration in the big city.
Also in New York during January is the National Boat Show. Lastly enjoy dining out during restaurant week in the Big Apple.
Chinese New Year celebrations can also be found in February. Celebrate 10 days of festivities in Chinatown.
February also hosts the Empire State Building Run Up Foot Race. March is the month of the South Street Seaport Irish Stroll.
This tradition is a great place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with food, festivities and more. Also on March 17th is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
This world-famous parade takes place every year on Fifth Avenue and is always fun to attend. Catch another parade in April also on Fifth Avenue, the Easter Parade.
A unique April event is the Circus Walk. At midnight the animals from the circus parade to Madison Square Garden.
It is a great event for kids. Another kid-friendly even is the Egg Rolling Contest on Easter Sunday at Central Park.
One last April event is National Tartan Day where pipers and drummers march down Sixth Avenue. Heading into May you might be able to catch the Great Five Boro Bike Tour, which is the largest cycling event in the nation.
A few other exciting events in May are the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, the Hudson Valley Fair, the Albany Tulip Festival, and the Lilac Festival in Rochester. Kamagra Lastly, you won’t want to miss Fleet Week which also takes place in May.
If you love museums you will want to check out the Museum Mile Festival in June. All of the museums on Fifth Avenue are open for free during this time.
Something else that starts in June is SummerStage, which are a series of free concerts held at Central Park. JuneFest is another celebration on Staten Island and kicks off the beginning of summer.
If you are looking for a way to celebrate the Fourth of July then check out the fireworks presented by Macy’s. A great place to view them is at Battery Park.
Brooklyn also has an Independence Day Parade each year. And Buffalo has a Friendship Festival, which celebrates both the United States and Canada.
Also in July you will find a variety of fairs including the Cayuga County Fair, the Jefferson County Fair, the Monroe County Fair, the Hemlock Fair, and the Lewis County Fair. August features many more fairs in these counties: Cattaraugus, Chemung, Livingston, Otsego, Franklin, and Wayne.
No matter which county you are in you will most likely be able to find a fair during the summertime. Heading into September is a Harvest Festival in Burke, NY.
Also during this month is the NY Film Festival which shows at the Lincoln Center. A few other things to attend are the Feast of San Gennaro, the West Indian-American Day parade, and the Katharine Hepburn Garden Festival.
October celebrates Columbus Day as well as Oktoberfest. Brooklyn also holds a Haunted Halloween Carnival for kids.
November is a fun month because the holiday seasons starts with the lighting ceremony at the Rockefeller Center. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade also takes place and is one of the most popular parades in the country.
If you are looking to get your holiday shopping done then you may want to visit the Madison Avenue Holiday Expo which opens each November. The last month of the year, December, hosts one of the largest events: Times Square New Year’s Eve.
Crowds gather to watch the drop of the ball at midnight. This event is televised and viewed all over the world. It is a great way to end the year.
As you can see the state of New York has so much to offer. You can visit any time of year and you will always be able to find something to do.
