Guiding You Through Your Very First Hand Of Online Blackjack
One of the most popular casino games of all time, blackjack is a card game that is well suited for beginners to the casino, due to it being able to be played with knowledge of only the basic rules.
If you’re playing blackjack for the firs time, assuming that you’ve signed up to an online casino, deposited some money and have sat at a blackjack table, the following steps should help you to succeed in your very first hand of online blackjack.
1. Start by placing some money – a low figure will do to start with, such as 50p – into the betting area. The actual area may vary from casino to casino, but generally speaking there will be a place in front of you on the table where your money should be placed.
2. Once you have placed your wager, click deal (or any equivalent button) and you’ll receive two cards, both face up. You’ll also notice that the dealer will receive two cards, one face down and once face up.
3. Looking at the dealer’s face up card first, if it is an ace, you will be given the opportunity to buy insurance, which is the ability to receive at least some money if the dealer has blackjack (an ace and a Jack or simply an ace and a ten-value card, depending on the casino). This is your own choice and although it means paying out more money, it gives you that extra return should the dealer have that hand.
4. Assuming that insurance hasn’t been offered, look back at your cards. Remember, you’re looking to get as close to 21 as you possibly can and the highest card that you could have dealt to you is worth 10 (you could have an ace, which is worth 11, but it can also be worth 1, depending on how you want to use it). Therefore, if you’re hand is currently showing a total of 11 or less, hit (take another card) without any further hesitation.
5. Now, if you’re hand doesn’t equal 11 or less, then there is the possibility that if you take another card, you’ll go bust. However, the chances of this happening are unlikely, as the amount of cards with a value of 9 or less vastly outweigh those that have a value of 10 or more.
In addition, the general rule in blackjack is that if you’re first two cards are less than 15, you should hit.
6. If you took another card and haven’t gone bust, you now need to keep in mind that if the dealer is dealt cards to the value of 17 or higher, they can’t take any additional cards, so therefore you ideally want to be aiming to get a hand value of between 18 and 21.
However, especially for your first hand of online blackjack, as soon as you break the 16 mark, stick (don’t take any further cards).
7. From here on, it’s simply watching what the dealer is dealt and if they’re hand exceeds yours in value, they win. However, if yours is the higher value hand, without exceeding 21, then you take your bet plus the relevant return.
There are some additional aspects in blackjack that you need to know about, such as being able to split your cards if you’re first two cards are the same, meaning that you can play two separate hands with two separate bets, but generally speaking, these tips should walk you through your very first game of online blackjack, hopefully seeing you win.
