Houston Texans Tickets – Texans Become More Competitive After Draft Grades
The Houston Texans have been on the rise in recent seasons, and the 2010 season could be another step forward for the franchise in light of their picks in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Texans finished second in the AFC South last season behind Super Bowl runner-up the Indianapolis Colts. The Houston Texas picked up grades ranging from As to Bs from analysts, putting them on the same level as the marks Indianapolis received. All of the new players will add excitement to the Texans’ play in 2010, and fans can see them live by reserving Houston Texans tickets online.
The Texans addressed one of their major needs early by using their first round pick on Alabama cornerback Kareem Jackson. The pick was questioned by some analysts, as the Texans decided to pass on another talented cornerback, Kyle Wilson, in order to select Jackson. Jackson impressed in pre-draft workouts and looks like a good starting prospect for his rookie season.
In Round Two, they picked of the 58th overall pick from the Arizona Cardinals through the New England Patriots. With it, they solved another pre-draft need with the selection of Auburn running back Ben Tate. Before Tate, the Texans had been leaning on running back Steve Slaton. The addition of Tate will add dimension to their running game. Houston turned to defense for the third round, selecting Arizona defensive tackle Earl Mitchell (81st overall pick).
The Texans had two picks in the fourth round, the first coming from the Kansas City Chiefs (the 102nd overall pick). Houston used the pick to add Miami linebacker Darryl Sharpton. His contributions are expected to be as a backup and on special teams, but he could earn his way to a starting spot. Also in the fourth round, the Texans picked Wisconsin tight end Garrett Graham. In the later rounds, the Texans picked up Northwestern cornerback Sherrick McManis (Round Five), Colorado State offensive guard Shelley Smith (Round Six), LSU kick returner Trindon Holliday (Round Six) and Pittsburgh tight end Dorin Dickerson (Round Seven).
The Colts also did well in their selections, adding youth and depth. They selected TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes in the first round (31st overall) and Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer in the second round (63rd overall). Another Colts pick who could see a lot of playing time in the future is their third-round pick, Southern California cornerback Kevin Thomas.
The Tennessee Titans’ grade for the 2010 NFL Draft is interesting, as their marks were quite varied depending on the analysts. Some gave them marks as low as a B-, but others went as high as an A+. With their first-round pick (16th overall), the Cialis Professional Titans selected Georgia Tech defensive end Derrick Morgan. He is expected to start as a rookie and be a top playmaker. With no picks in the second round, the Titans returned in the third round and selected Southern California wide receiver Damian Williams and Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran.
The Jaguars didn’t do as well in the draft as the rest of the AFC South, but they still managed to nab some talent. They picked up California defensive end Tyson Alualu in the first round (10th overall) and Louisiana Tech defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith in the third round (74th overall).
