How To Install A Double Din DVD Monitor
With all the latest technological advancements taking place so rapidly it is becoming a bit of a challenge to understand and operate a car stereo. Some of the latest technologies include GPS, Bluetooth speakers and automatic DVD changers. A double DIN DVD monitor is one such advancement and has become quite popular in the recent years. In this article I am going to show you how to install a double DIN monitor DVD in your car.
The typical panel size of a single DIN unit is 180*50 mm but the panel size of a double DIN unit is 180*100 mm. so it is pretty obvious that the main difference between a single DIN unit and a double DIN unit lies in the size of the panel. With a larger panel size, a double DIN unit allows the user to access GPS or watch a movie. For the purpose of illustration I am using a 2005 silverado but the same steps are applicable to almost all types of cars.
After placing your foot on the brake pedal turn on the key to the ON position and shift the gear to position ‘1’. Now if possible tilt the angle of your car`s steering wheel so that the bezel surrounding the dash board can easily be removed with the help of tour hands. After this turn off the ignition and park your vehicle.
You will need a flat head screw driver, 0.25 inch ratchet and socket set, double DIN DVD head unit, vehicle-specific wiring harness, vehicle-specific dash kit, GM antenna adapter, wire cutter, wire crimpers, wire strippers and blue butt connectors for installing a double din DVD monitor.
Remove the stereo from the dash board with the help of the 0.25 inch ratchet and socket and remove the wiring harness from the dashboard and the antenna. Now place the vehicle specific dash kit in the dash board and slide the cage of the double din DVD monitor inside the dash kit.
Now you have to connect the double din stereo`s wiring harness with the vehicle`s wiring harness. Each and every wire is marked with a color coding scheme to help to make this connection. Before connecting remove about 0.25 inch of the shielding from the all the wire. Now crimp an end of a wire to a blue butt connector and find the same color in the other wiring harness and attach it to the other end of a blue butt connector.
Now connect the dashboard wiring harness with the vehicle specific wiring harness and allow the plug to hang out of the cage. Now you have to plug the GM antenna adapter into the factory antenna lead.
Now take the antenna lead and the wiring harness and plug it at the back of the double-din unit. Now gently push the unit into the dash board. Keep pushing it until you hear a click sound indicating that the fit is complete and perfect. Now reassemble everything with the help of screws.
By following these steps install a double din monitor DVD and access navigation system and movies with ease.
