Largest Solar Plant in Texas Slated to Be Opened in Pflugerville
If pending agreements between the City of Pflugerville, RRE Austin Solar, Travis County and Elgin Independent School District all come through, Pflugerville may soon become home to the largest solar farm in the state of Texas.
Already, RRE Austin Solar, which is a local company that is receiving its financial backing from investors based in India, has purchased 600 acres of farmland located about 15 miles east of Pflugerville. The Pflugerville City Council, on the other hand, has announced that it has signed an agreement with the company, which has plans to install up to $750,000 worth of solar panels for the city as well as for the Pflugerville Independent School District public facilities. Meanwhile, the Elgin Independent School District board of trustees has passed a resolution to support the initiative and has officially invited the company to submit an application for its Chapter 313 incentives.
Although it looks as if things are moving in the right direction, the company is still trying to work out the details of the arrangement, including the tax abatement agreements with Travis County and the school district. Without agreements from all three government parties, RRE Austin Solar President Dinesh Mehta said the project will not be financially possible.
If everything goes well, RRE Austin Solar will get started on the project, which will be located at the intersection of Manda-Carlson Road, by the end of this year. Under the proposed agreement, the new equipment will be installed by January first of 2014 and will be operational by August 1, 2014. Once everything is in place, the Pflugerville Solar Power Plant will be capable of producing 60 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power every house in the city.
While the City of Pflugerville has not agreed to annex the property, it has agreed to provided cialis cheap RRE Austin Solar with $750,000 worth of wind turbines and solar panels. These panels and turbines will be installed on city buildings in order to help lower the city’s operation cost, while the company will also pay the city $2.5 million over a 30 year contract.
According to RRE officials, the company has plans to create similar plants in other parts of Central Texas, though the Pflugerville plant is slated to be the first one up and running.
