Utah is a gorgeous state with versatile land. From the red rocks in St. George to the snowy tips of the Rocky Mountains in Salt Lake City, it is a great vacation spot for anyone and everyone.

There are so many things to do that the hardest thing is to choose between all the fabulous options. One great place to visit in Utah is known as Moab.

Moab is a city in Grand County, in eastern Utah in the Western United States. It rests 233 miles southeast of Salt Lake City and 354 miles west of Denver, Colorado.

According to the 2000 census, the population used to be 4,779, and it rests in Grand County. It hosts a large number of tourists each year, mostly visitors of the Arches National Park and Canyonlands Naitonal Park, which are both located nearby.

It is also a popular base for mountain bikers who come to ride the extensive network of trails including the famed Slickrock Trail and off-roaders who come for the annual Moab Jeep Safari.

The Moab Jeep Safari is where 4 wheelers come to challenge the rough terrain of the Moab Back country. Although its title does say it is for jeeps, many come in 4 x 4 trucks.

It usually takes place during Easter Weekend Kamagra jelly and lasts for nine days extending through Easter Sunday. While four wheeling, people can either go alone, or join in a group.

The groups usually meet up early in the day, at a certain location in the city. First waivers are signed and collected before the drivers can be given instructions and are told to comply with any and all Bureau of Land Management regulations.

This is a fun and exciting event for families who enjoy the outdoor, four wheeling lifestyle and all accompanying activities. It is an opportunity to gather together and form some camaraderie with those who share your Jeep passion.

There are many other activities in which you can participate in the area like rock climbing, site seeing, hiking, mountain biking, camping and many others. Moab’s economy was originally based on agriculture, but gradually shifted to mining.

Uranium and vanadium were discovered in the area in the 1910s and 1920s. Potash and manganese came next, and then oil and gas were discovered, making it a valuable piece of land indeed.

The city population grew nearly 500% over the next few years, bringing the population to near 6,000 people. The population boom lead to a great deal of construction in homes and schools.

As far as transportation is concerned, Moab used to be a strategic place to cross the Colorado River before the construction of the railroad in 1883. A toll ferry service across the river ended when a permanent bridge was built in 1911.

This bridge was later replaced in 1955 with the current bridge. The highway that uses this bridge has been renumbered many times but is currently known as U.S. Route 191.

Therefore, the transportation has come a long way to accommodate the many visitors that frequent the area for their various purposes. Moab gained freight railroad access in 1962, when a spur railroad line was build to reach the Cane Creek potash mine.

The mining industry has driven the area to become much of what it is today. Moab has never had passenger rail service, but the California Zephyr has advertised service to Moab in the past because of its stops at Thompson Springs, Green River or Grand Junction, Colorado.

Today, the easiest way to get to this town is by car traveling on the interstate. It is a gorgeous, scenic drive as well with all of its unique red rocks and back country land.

There is currently no regular bus service, but charter busses and shuttles service from Salt Lake to other areas on the other side. Air service is also available at Canyonlands Field, the closest service available.

Many enjoy this area for its serene location that is found inspirational. If you and your family enjoy the great outdoors, you will definitely find Moab a spectacle for your next vacation.

There are so many things to see and do in the area; you will be entertained for your entire trip, whether it is for a weekend or a few weeks. You may even like it so much, that you will want to change your residency to the state of Utah.
