When you and your family are thinking about what kind of pet to get, it can be a little stressful. Everyone will have their own opinions and will want something different.

One type of dog that you may want to consider is a boxer. They were developed in Germany and are a stocky, medium sized, short haired dog.

Usually their coat color is a light to dark shade of brown with white markings. They have square looking muzzles and broad skulls with strong jaws and a powerful bite.

They were bred from the English bulldog and the breed Bullenbeisser which is now extinct. At a dog show back in Munich in 1895, the boxers were first introduced and now have become the sixth most popular dog in the United States.

But do not let this pre-judgment convince you that they are scary. Actually boxers have a very energetic and playful temperament and are fairly bright.

They are good with children and are known for their great love for their owners and loyalty to their masters. They are pretty clean and have a cheerful disposition.

While they are playful and like to be very active, they are also smart and can prove themselves brave and determined when they need to be. They make a great companion to anyone will pay them attention and will remain faithful to you and protect you if you treat properly and with respect.

They are not aggressive or vicious if they have enough socialization with people and other dogs. They do better around smaller dogs because they are patient and do not feel intimidated.

So it would be best to keep them away from the larger adult dogs so that no fighting issues will occur. For whatever reason, it seems that female boxers are more prone to getting into severe fights.

If you cannot spend enough time with your boxer, then either get them a fellow dog companion or give them up for adoption to a family that can spend lots of time paying with them and socializing with them on a daily basis. This will keep them happy and they will appreciate it more than you think.

Since boxers are more sensitive to the veterinary sedative acepromazine, it is suggested that owners avoid giving it to them at all. Taking your boxer to the vet every once in a while to get a checkup will help your dog prevent getting sick with these problems.

Because these dogs are so athletic, they need to be physically active every day. Giving them enough exercise and proper conditioning will benefit their health and help them live longer.

Do not over exercise your younger dogs though as this can cause some damage to their growing bones. But you can involve them with you own health regime as you bring them on walks or runs with you every day.
