Visit Salt Lake City All Year Long

Salt Lake City is always a great place to visit. This interesting city has a unique history, fun attractions and a lot of outdoor recreational activities as well.

An added bonus is the fact that Salt Lake hosts many annual events. In order to make your trip even more fun, why not plan on coming during one of these many events?

All year long, no matter when you visit, you will have an enjoyable time. If you happen to come in January you must check out the Sundance Film Festival.

This 10-day event takes place in Park City, which is about 30 minutes from Salt Lake. The festival features many films and is attended by fans, upcoming stars and Hollywood celebrities.

It was founded in 1981 and has been taking place each year since. February has a couple of events including Bald Eagle Day and the Gallery Stroll.

Heading into March you can take part in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the St. Patrick’s Day Pipe Band Concert, or the Best Buddies Easter Egg Hunt. April is a fun month to celebrate Easter with the Mormon Tabernacle Easter Concert and the Annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab; which is actually a few hours from Salt Lake City, but could still be a fun trip to make.

May has some interesting events including the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy Faire. This event is held in Ogden and features jousting matches, horse vaulting and plenty of costumed characters.

There is also plenty to do for kids as well as food and craft booths. A few other events in May are the Living Traditions Festival and the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival.

Heading into June make sure to attend the Highlands Festival. Visitors will enjoy watching Scottish dancing, bagpipe playing, as well as visiting food and craft booths.

Also in June are the Utah Arts Festival and the Asian Festival. Heading into July there are quite a few events.

One popular event is the Freedom Fest held in Provo each year. Provo is 45 minutes south of Salt Lake and hosts the largest Fourth of July celebration in the Brand Viagra state.

The celebration includes a grand parade, a huge fireworks show, craft and food booths, and a carnival. Later in the month, the state of Utah celebrates Pioneer Day, which is a state holiday.

Pioneer Day is almost like a second 4th of July with parades, carnivals, fireworks and more. The largest parade takes place in downtown Salt Lake City and is called the “Days of ’47 Parade.”

Also on Pioneer Day in Salt Lake City is some fun events which take place at This is the Place Heritage Park. Kids will enjoy this spot because they can see what it was like to be a pioneer.

They can also visit the petting zoo, ride on a train or on a pony. It is a lot of fun for the whole family.

Heading into August a few interesting events include the Belly Dance Festival and the Railroader’s Festival. September is a lot of fun because it hosts the Utah State Fair.

This huge fair includes livestock, rides, food, shows and more. It is a great spot for all ages.

Also in September are the Greek Fest, the Great Salt Lake Chili Affair, the Shakespearean Festival, and an Octoberfest Celebration. October is a great time to visit Salt Lake due to the many seasonal attractions.

These include Frightmares at Lagoon, Bewitched at Gardner Village, Haunted City Tours, Corn Mazes, Boo at the Zoo and more. It is also a great time to see the beautiful, colored leaves in the mountains.

Then in November start the holiday season off right by attending the tree lighting at Temple Square. It takes place every year right after Thanksgiving.

The lights at Temple Square are quite a site to see. Also during this month, the outdoor ice skating rink at the Gallivan Center opens.

It is a fun activity for young and old. Heading into December more holiday festivities take place including the Festival of Trees.

This event features over 600 decorated Christmas trees, a sweet shop, a gift shop, and live performances. The last event of the year is First Night in downtown Salt Lake City.

This event rings in the New Year and has most of downtown involved. Enjoy free activities, an array of food, live performances and fireworks at midnight.
