Visiting Historic Temple Square

Salt Lake City is a popular destination for many tourists. One thing to do in Salt Lake City, Utah is to visit the historic and beautiful Temple Square.

It is a very accessible area that consists of three blocks in downtown Salt Kamagra Soft Lake City. Within that three blocks lay twenty attractions that are related to Mormon pioneer history and genealogy.

Included are the Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the Family History Library. This is a great opportunity to visit all or most of the contained attractions in a short period of time.

Though parking is limited, it is not as bad as many other large cities and is considered affordable. Visitors can even take public transportation as an alternative to parking near Temple Square.

The Utah Transit Authority operates numerous bus routes and rail lines in the Temple Square area. Therefore, it is easy for you and your family to get around in the gorgeous downtown scene.

There are also walking tours available to help you reach all of the must see attractions on and around Temple Square. It will take you through the gorgeous buildings with a tremendous significance.

The Salt Lake Temple is a worldwide icon that represents the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the heart of Temple Square. It is a massive granite edifice which was constructed in a neo-gothic style over the course of an astounding 40 year period between 1853 and 1893.

The pioneers who settled the valley sacrificed great time, effort and many material goods to build the temple which stands as a testament to their faith and devotion. Only members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are permitted to enter the temple, but all visitors are welcome to walk on the grounds and admire the stunning workmanship and details of the building.

Even the surrounding scene is a beautiful sight. You are sure to enjoy visiting the Salt Lake Temple.

Also, the South Visitors Center is another building in Temple Square. It contains exhibits on the building of the Salt Lake Temple and on the importance of the family.

Therefore, it is a great family stop and it can really enhance your trip to the Temple by exploring how it was made and even more information about the beautiful structure. You can even view pictures of the interior of the temple inside here if you cannot enter.

It is open seven days a week from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm. It is a great learning opportunity for you and your family.

Also, Assembly Hall is an ornate, colorful building on Temple Square. It was built in 1877 and is used today for free weekend concerts featuring local and international artists.

If you happen to visit on a Friday or Saturday evening, there is a good chance that there are is a free concert that does not require tickets going on. You should enjoy the beautiful sounds at Assembly Hall and note that children under the age of eight cannot attend, but all else can.

For more great music and entertainment, the Salt Lake Tabernacle is home to the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This building is located just north of Assembly Hall and is an architectural and acoustic wonder.

The famous organ at the front of the Tabernacle contains 11,623 pipes which makes it one of the largest and richest sounding organs in the world. Also, the building was constructed so that even the drop of a pin at the front of the building can be heard at the back.

The tabernacle is usually open daily for tours. Additionally, the public is welcome to attend all choir rehearsals on Thursday evenings and the Music and the Spoken Word broadcasts on Sunday mornings at 9:20 am.

There is another Visitors Center to the North of the Square which is home to an impressive, 11 foot statue of Jesus Christ known as The Christus. Here, visitors can also view films about Mormon history and beliefs as well as other exhibits and works of art.

There are also a few more museums, family history libraries and art displays all in Temple Square. This is a great activity for you and your family in Salt Lake City, Utah.
