First, there is Bryce Canyon National Park where erosion has shaped colorful Claron lime stones, sandstones and mudstones into thousands of spires, fins, pinnacles and mazes. This is a fabulous location for camping, hiking and exploring.

The Grand Staircase and Escalante National Monument offers beautiful and colorful landscapes. The monument extends across 1.9 million acres.

Zion National Park offers some 229 square miles of spectacular cliff, canyon landscape and wilderness. Visitors can see the world’s largest natural arch and bridge, the Kolob Arch, with a span measuring 310 feet.

Also, the Canyons of the Escalante are located within the magnificent Grand Staircase and Escalante National Monument. The Escalante River winds its way through massive walls of white rock, slowly carving the stark and beautiful Canyons of the Escalante.

The wave is in Coyote Buttes Special Management Area and is divided into two units. The dividing line is at the south end of Top Rock, the dominant physical heap of rock in the area.

It is a well defined large mass of white Navajo Sandstone of which The Wave (the main goal for most people) is on the edge of the northwest corner, below the upper levels. From a distance as people approach the area, Top Rock is clearly visible in the landscape.

It is about a three mile hike per direction over sand and rock. No trail exists, but a passage has been created by the people who tend to cause a noticeable trail in the sandy portions.

You must have a permit to visit the area as well as a map. It is located near the Utah-Arizona border east of Highway 89; this is only for those who are professionals in the wilderness, not for pleasure seeking tourists.
