Walking the Path of Pavel Tstasouline

One of the biggest names connected to kettlebells and kettlebell training is Pavel Tstasouline. Pavel Tstasouline has developed some of the most effective kettlebell workout routines.

His passion began with his father. His father was very interested in improving himself as much as possible and he passed this desire onto his son.

At an early age, Pavel Tsatsouline developed a love for martial arts and physical conditioning. In the beginning, his exercise routine was mostly based on military training and included pull-ups, one-legged squats, and running.

He began training with kettlebells late in his teenage years. Later, Pavel Tstasouline traveled to America.

There he opened a gym inside of an abandoned bank vault. He entitled this gym ‘Courage Corner’ and he grew to love his business.

The abandoned bank vault was the perfect location for this gym because it was nearly sound-proof. This meant that weights could be dropped and no one would be bothered by the noise.

Pavel’s gym began with barbells, pull-up stands, and a power rack. Following his sense of humor, he placed a book called ‘The History of Torture’ in a visible location on his desk.

As time passed, he proved himself to be very resourceful and he never placed limits on what he or others could do. When he had first arrived in America, he decided to train on a child’s playground because he did not have any other equipment.

He used whatever objects were on hand for the weight training part of his routine. Pavel also made rigs out of nylon webbing that he tied to a door in a storage locker.

However, one time the rings tightened around his wrists so that he was stuck in the doorway. When he set up the gym in the bank vault, he added dead-lifts and heavy ab work to his routine.

Later, a kettlebell section was also added. Since that time, he has developed a routine that focuses on kettlebells, dead-lifts, pull-ups, pistols and heavy abs.

These things incorporate aspects from a variety of different sports including the newest form of yoga to the oldest form of power lifting. Pavel also harbored a passion for reading and he incorporated what he read in Russian textbooks, neuroscience journals, pre World War II Strength and Health books, and online to his workout routine.

He also recognized the differences in how a military man would train in comparison to a regular athlete or civilian. An athlete can develop large muscles and be very successful in what he or she does.

He promoted the used of kettlebells for strengthening exercises for both civilians and soldiers. Pavel was born on the 23rd of August in 1969 in Minsk, Belarus.

His wife, Julie, supported him in his learning about strength training. In the beginning he was a physical trainer and drill instructor of the Spetsnaz.

The Spetsnaz are the special force division of the Soviets. Today he has taken his work to the civilians.

Pavel also advised the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, the nuclear-security units of the U.S. Department of Energy, and the elite units of the U.S. Marshals and SWAT teams.

His methods of strength training have revolutionized strength training philosophy and methods. Pavel’s methods and ideas are used throughout the entire world today.

Instead of emphasizing bulky muscles, there has been a shift to emphasize denser, compact muscles. These kinds of muscles still exude strength, but are much more practical.

When he dies, he will leave behind a legacy that will remind people to never place limits on what they can do to change themselves and the world.
