Car Buying Made Easy With These 5 Simple Steps
The car buying process can be one that is complicated, daunting and exciting, whilst also being confusing and in a lot of instances, laborious.
This doesn’t need to be the case, however, as long as each and every one of these 5 steps is always carried out.
1. Always, always know your stuff – irrelevant of whether you’re buying a new model from Aston Martin dealers or a second hand car from your local used car dealership, it’s imperative you do your research into the car you want before you even think about going for a test drive.
The reason behind this is that the more you know about what type of car you want – and need – the less likelihood there is of you not only choosing and being sold a car that isn’t suitable for you, but also ensuring that you know the real value of the car that you’re looking for.
2. Have a checklist – before you set out to go look round dealers, it’s important that you sit down and put together a checklist of aspects that the car you’re going to buy needs to have.
Although you should already have a good idea of the type of car you’re after (assuming you’ve carried out point 1), by having a checklist with you, it allows you to consider other cars that you’ve been shown by the salesperson, should they not have the car in stock that you’re looking for.
3. Decide on a budget. And stick to it – one of the problems that a lot of people encounter when buying a car is that they go out looking for a car with – at best – only a small idea of the amount of money that they can spend.
Obviously if you’re seriously going to look in Aston Martin dealers, then money will not often be a problem. If you’re a typical UK family, however, then you’re going to have a budget of some type, whether you’re fully aware of it or not.
When you’re putting your checklist together, have a look at your finances and work out how much money you can afford to spend on a car as an absolute maximum. Then, when you go out and start carrying out test drives, you can ensure that you aren’t looking at cars which are completely out of you budget.
4. Imagine you’re in Turkey – if you ask any travel agent about what to do when shopping in Turkey, they’ll tell you that you should always barter and haggle and the same principle applies to car buying.
Remember that the price displayed on the car is very rarely the price that the dealership can sell it for and therefore if the car is selling for 10,000 pounds and your budget is 8,500, come in at 7,500 and see where it goes from there.
You might not feel overly confident haggling, but if you can save yourself one or two thousand pounds, it’s well worth feeling slightly uncomfortable Cialis Jelly for a few minutes.
5. Don’t buy any car straightaway – unless the car you’re looking at is an absolute bargain or there is a lot of interest in it, talk to the salesperson about it and even take it on a test drive, but don’t buy it on that day.
Instead, if you go back a day or two later, it’s likely that the salesperson will remember you, will realise you are genuinely interested in buying the car and will do everything that they can to sell it to you, often including reducing the price and throwing in additional extras.
