Endurance Racing in Utah
Utah is a gorgeous state in the western United States with plenty of things to do. There is a common theme of staying healthy in this well to do area.
There are many races in the state from 5Ks to marathons that have a beautiful surrounding scene and a popular draw. If you are interested in training and running in Utah, here are some tips to make your endurance runs more enjoyable or a little easier.
Make sure to check the list of races in Utah as they range from all times of the year and locations all over the state. Just make sure you train appropriately before you throw yourself out in the reins.
Every training regime includes a long run one day a week so you continue pushing your mileage. Be sure to accomplish this very necessary step.
The long runs are the most challenging part of your training, especially as the miles continue increasing. Follow these tips to make your long runs easier and more comfortable as you prepare for the big day.
You want to be sure to avoid chafing. You should wear cool max or synthetic blend socks, shirt and shorts that wick away moisture.
Use body glide, Vaseline or similar anti-chafing products on your feet, under your arms, between your thighs, on your nipples, etc. to prevent chafing and or blisters. Comfort goes a long way when you need to keep running for long distances.
You also want to stay loose and avoid tension. Usually, some runners get tense in their shoulders and arms when they start to get fatigued which leads to neck and back pain.

You can also break up your mileage in your head into smaller sections, or rethink the mileage. Your 15 mile run will feel much more doable if you break it in to three five mile segments.

Remember the golden rule of nothing new on race day. Start experimenting with different foods like energy gels and chews to see what you like and stick with it on the big day.
Also, clothing should not be new. You should figure out which clothing works best for you and stick with those favorites on race day so there are no new surprises when it counts.
You may also want to take a walking break. Do not feel guilty if you stop or walk to get the fluids down during your long run.
Many people walk through water stops in marathons, and taking a short walking break gives your running muscles a quick rest. This way you will feel more energized and refreshed when you start running again.
Just be sure to pick it back up and not to quit on your breaks. They can be a great help to your body though in times of need.
You may also want to find a running group. Running with other people can make your long runs easier and more pleasurable.
Chatting with a running partner definitely makes the time go by faster, so your run will not be as mentally challenging. Look for running clubs or join a charity team in your area.
You should also run on a softer surface. If possible, try to run on a soft surface like a hiking trail for at least part of your long run.
A dirt path is also gentler on your body than asphalt or concrete. Running on it will help you recover faster after your long run is complete.
There are many races in Utah ranging from Bryce Canyon, Moab, Salt Lake City, Provo, Logan and many more. There are some with themes and extra festivities which make for an even more entertaining experience.
