NASCAR Tickets – Jamie McMurray Has a Shot at the Chase
Jamie McMurray isn’t the most consistent driver on the NASCAR circuit, but he’s solid cialis cheap when it counts. Following the Brickyard 400 in late July, McMurray still isn’t yet in Chase contention but has won the two biggest races of the year – the Brickyard and the Daytona 500 – and he still has a legitimate shot at getting into the Top 12 in time for the Chase.
McMurray has six races left (as of July 30) to prove he’s good enough to run with the big boys in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, but he’ll have to be more consistent than he’s been thus far in the season if he wants a shot at making his first Chase. McMurray’s big win in Indy on July 25 marked his second Top Five finish in a row, signaling perhaps a shift in momentum in his favor going into the tail end of the season.
The 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup year has been a rollercoaster ride for McMurray, the Ganassi Earnhardt driver who almost didn’t even have a ride for this season. McMurray started the season off with a bang at the Daytona 500 this February, zooming into Victory Lane for the inaugural race of the year. Since then, however, he has fluctuated between finishing in the Top 10 and barely finishing, which has given him a place right in the middle of the pack in driver standings points.
After his first place finish in Indianapolis at the Brickyard 400 in late July, however, McMurray has risen to No. 16 overall, needing to climb just four spots to make the Chase. This won’t be an easy task, but if it’s one that can be accomplished, it’s Jamie McMurray who will be able to rise to the challenge.
McMurray’s crew chief, Kevin “Bono” Manion, spoke to NASCAR.com following the Brickyard about what his team’s strategy will be to get No. 1 into the Chase. Manion said, “It’s just going to be five top-fives. We picked up another 30 points today (at the Brickyard). 30 times five is 150. We’re 151 out. It’s going to take some good, strong runs. That’s all I got to say.”
Even the mere prospect of Jamie McMurray having a shot at his first Chase is enough to sell NASCAR tickets, and if he’s able to make up more than 150 points in a handful of races McMurray’s story will take front and center going into this year’s Chase.
In order for Jamie McMurray to make it into the Chase this year, he’s got to be more consistent than he has been all season. The Earnhardt Ganassi superstar has proven with his big wins at Daytona and Indianapolis that he can perform under pressure and he’s got the stuff NASCAR champions are made of, but now McMurray has to work on being consistent enough to run with the NASCAR heavyweights throughout the course of the entire racing season.
Can Jamie McMurray post Top Five finishes in his next six races at Pocono, Watkins Glen, Michigan, Bristol and Atlanta (respectively)? It’s something NASCAR fans are monitoring closely, but even McMurray himself won’t be too focused on the yellow line differentiating the Top 12 going into the final part of the season.
“Well, I view the Chase differently, I think,” McMurray told NASCAR.com. “Every time I pay attention to points, we run 30th. I don’t even really care where we’re at in points. I think you show up every week, do your job. If you make the Chase, that’s wonderful.”
McMurray’s second chance with Ganassi Earnhardt Racing would truly be a Cinderella story with a spot in the Chase, and results are all to come later this summer.
