When Is The Best Time To Buy A New Car?
The BBC published an article on 6 July 2010 explaining that compared to the same period 12 months ago, new car sales Tadalis SX had risen by almost 11 percent in June 2010.
Selling 195,226 new cars (with the Vauxhall Astra being the most popular new car to be sold), the figure is definitely encouraging for car dealerships and shows that people are having more faith in the market – even when considering the Government’s scrappage scheme is no longer available.
But although over 1,200,000 new cars have bee sold in the UK since the start of 2010 according to the article, many people are still wondering whether now is the best time to purchase a car or not.
And the simple answer is no – not quite yet, anyway.
If you want a quick and easy explanation, then simply put, you stand a better chance of getting a better deal in 6 weeks than you do now and whatever you do, make sure you buy before the end of 2010.
If you’ve got a little more time to spare, read on to find out exactly when – and why – you should head out to buy your new car.
At the moment, the weather is glorious in the UK. The sun is shining most days, the temperature is hot and therefore people are spending more and more time outdoors, going for a drive to enjoy the weather.
Now if you live in even a relatively small town, you’re likely to have to drive past a car dealership before you actually get out onto the open roads and chances are you’ve considered going in to have a look.
The weather is great and you can try the cars out without worrying it’s going to rain or being cold, so why not?
Because everyone else will be doing the same thing, meaning that the salespeople will have several customers to choose from, which in turn results in them not being too bothered if they don’t get a sale with one of them.
And because they aren’t overly concerned they don’t get a sale from one customer, they’re less likely to offer extras or heavily reduce the price of a car.
Further to this reason, the new vehicle registrations are released for the second time in 2010 on 1 September, which means that all showrooms, from Mini dealers to Bentley dealerships, will be looking to clear their forecourt in the coming weeks, so to make room for a large shipment of new cars.
In addition, the reason for buying before the end of 2010 is due to the fact that the VAT rate increases on 4 January 2011 to 20 percent, meaning an increase in prices across the board.
What’s more is that, if you can hold off buying a new car until the end of August, you can not only benefit from the points mentioned so far, but you’ll be likely to receive a better deal as there will be several ‘Bank Holiday’ sales’ taking place and salespeople will also be looking to gain their last few commissions in their August payslip, meaning they are more willing to negotiate a better deal. If you have to go and buy a car now, then generally speaking, it’s not a bad time. However, if you can put it off for a few weeks until the end of August, you’ll be in a much stronger position to haggle and therefore receive the best deal possible.
