Bizarre Building by World-renowned Architect Provides Another Reason to Visit Las Vegas.
The Brand Levitra architect Frank Gehry has provided one more stunning addition to the Las Vegas skyline. But unlike the casinos which sit either side of it, Gehry’s building of high rise steel at an enigmatic angle will house a brain research centre.
The research centre has 27 patient suites spread across sixty five thousand square metres and is on the site of a former railroad.
Gehry said: “They asked me to do something unique in Las Vegas, something they would be proud of. That’s pretty tough to do because Las Vegas has every type of room and building that one can think of.”
He added: “Some people may think that my new creation is a bit over the top. I don’t think so. When you deliver a unique building that creates a sense of pride, that works, that keeps the rain out, it is uplifting. A building like that makes you happy to go to work and live in it.”
The project cost Canadian American architect Gehry about $75 million to build and work started on it in February 2007. The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Centre for Brain Health will be used for research into little known but chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
81-year-old Frank Gehry is perhaps the most well known living architect. He designed the Dancing House in Prague and the Guggenheim art museum in Bilbao among other wonder buildings.
Although he turned down previous requests to build something in Las Vegas, Gehry decided that this building would be a good way to help draw attention to, and raise money for, a good cause.
Despite the fact that not all people like his buildings, and some criticise him for wasting resources, Gehry said: “I can understand when somebody does not get what it is that I’m trying to do.
“I feel these things take time. The only thing is the personality of the building. Is it going to fit into Las Vegas?”
With car hire Las Vegas you can visit Gehry’s building and much more. Sin City has got so much to see and do and you are sure to have your senses scintillated. Gambling is the most popular pastime here in the mega casinos like the MGM Grand but there are also many shows and other kinds of entertainment.
Las Vegas feels exotic and this is hardly surprising given the history of the place and the fact that the casinos have names like Caesar’s Palace.
Vegas is after all where the Rat Pack used to hang out – Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and others. The combination of beautiful women and fast living was just too much for them to resist. They enjoyed it so much that they made a humorous heist movie in Las Vegas called Ocean’s Eleven about ripping off a casino.
The movie was then remade by today’s Rat Pack including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. Everything about Vegas is improbable, especially all the energy and water needed to power this neon-hued city which is smack bang in the middle of the Nevada desert. It was the construction of the Hoover Dam in 1928 which brought Vegas to prominence as thousands of workers flooded to the area. With car hire Las Vegas you should also take the time to see this incredible dam.
