Celebrity Tattoo Regrets
Tattoo in haste, repent at leisure. Or that certainly seems to be the case for many of Hollywood’s top A-listers, who are flocking to tattoo removal clinics in their droves. The first throws of passion, a belief that a relationship is going to last forever or just a case of ‘it seemed like a good idea at the time’ has left some of the movie and entertainment world’s biggest names with tattoos that they now regret. As a result, laser tattoo removal is now big business both in the US and around the world as the supposedly ‘permanent’ mark of undying love for your partner gets zapped off.
Some of the most high profile celebrities to undergo laser tattoo removal all state different reasons for their decision, but the bottom line is that tattoos are now no longer the life-long partnership that they used to be. Advances in laser technology have meant that unwanted tattoos can be removed relatively easily, although the process doesn’t come cheap.
Peter Andre is the latest in a long line of celebrities with ‘tattoo regret’, and is currently undergoing laser tattoo removal treatment to eradicate his ex-wife’s name from his ring finger. He has been quoted as saying he will be pleased when the body art is gone for good.
Katie Price decided to take an alternative course of action, having a ‘cover-up’ job done on her wrist tattoo of Peter’s name. Cover-ups are an alternative to laser tattoo removal, as long as you go to an expert tattoo artist who specialises in doing effective cover up jobs. But the original tattoo is still underneath the cover up – perhaps Katie isn’t quite ready to let go of her past relationship just yet?
Another Hollywood starlet who deeply regrets her impulsive actions is Jessica Alba, who is currently undergoing laser treatment to remove a poorly done ‘ladybirds and daisies’ tattoo from the back of her neck. The tattoo is fading, judging by recent pictures taken at a LA gala, but it will be some time before the marks disappear completely.
Tattoos are a deeply personal form of body art that should be thought about carefully and not decided upon impulsively. Hollywood is littered with stars that have suffered ‘post tattoo regret syndrome’ once a relationship has fizzled out. This very public display of devotion quickly becomes an embarrassment if the media spotlight zooms in on a tattoo that declares undying love for one person whilst the wearer is stepping out with a new partner. Perhaps the most famous of these PTRS sufferers was the megastar Johnny Depp, who had ‘Winona Forever’ tattooed into his arm during his relationship with Ms Ryder. After they broke up, he had the ‘na’ removed, leaving the tattoo as ‘Wino Forever’. Many pundits foresee another trip to the laser removal specialists as he realises that even this could be considered to be a ‘regrettable’ tattoo!
Tattoos are now much more transient than they were in previous years and as such laser tattoo specialists are seeing an increase in people wanting to have body ink removed. It isn’t just the stars who suffer from tattoo regrets, and thanks to laser treatment anyone with a tattoo they no longer want adorning their body can have them removed relatively easily. But it does cost, so perhaps the best way to avoid PTRS is to avoid having that tattoo done in the first place unless you’re absolutely sure you want to live with it for the rest of your life.
