Contemporary Furniture Fair Brings New Ideas To New York
Manhattan, New York, across from Jersey City, brings design aficionados and luxury condo dwellers to this year’s version of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair being held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, just across the Hudson from Jersey City.
This year the fair will open to the public on Tuesday, May 18.
Luxury Condos are custom designed for contemporary furniture. Innovative, modern architecture created to be set off by the best the design world’s offerings. It is no accident that some of the best architects in the world custom design furniture and fixtures to compliment their handiwork.
Ego Paris designed a series of alluring contemporary outdoor furniture. Everyone needs to visit their booth at the show. Their sunbathing lounges and chairs are epic sweeps of the designer’s inspiration, while their seating is everchanging between functunal and fun. They are offering 16 colors of each lacquer and messh coverings, all in the richest versions of the latest hues.
The German Design Council (Rat fer Formgebung) has a huge booth highlighting multiple German designers and manufacturers. Visitor anticipation is high In 2009 they won the show’s Best Booth Award.
Christian Woo of Vancouver, Canada will introduce their soulful, pensive woodworking designs. Christian’s work reveals insightful Scandinavian and Japanese influence overlays a pacific northwest aesthetic. Christian says “I design so as not to disturb the inherent virtues of the wood itself.”
The Italian contingent includes, Foscarini of Venice who brings the lighting which they recently showed at Milan. Innovative, sleek and dynamic, Foscarini has worked with a number of designers to create unique and beautiful lighting.
Italian compatriots Softline All-kit brought their full line of chairs and stools. I found the poetic and fluid shape of their Samba stool mesmerizing. Their transparent red Arco chair inspired me to search for the perfect spot in my condo for this stunning sculpture.
ICFF Juried Exhibition
The world’s top six, premier design schools will participate in the Annual ICFF juried exhibition. This year’s exhibits will showcase solutions to some essential design questions handled by both undergrad and graduate students. Students will be participating from ArtFuture, Maryland Institute College of Art, Konstfack (Sweden), the Pratt Institute, Parsons the New School for Design and Yale School of Architecture.
International Contemporary Furniture Fair – 2010
More than 500 exhibitors are scheduled to fill the 145,000 square feet of displays. Many of the exhibitors will arrive fresh from Cologne and Milan, bringing the hottest new Contemporary European Furniture trends. American designers and manufacturers will be presenting the best of their best for this international audience.
Each major American Contemporary furniture and accessory designers and manufacturers is expected to be in attendance. Not just furniture, but accessories, lighting, textiles, ceramics and kitchen and bath will be on display.
The Fair will be covered by major magazines, from the US, Canada and Europe.
The International Contemporary Furniture Fair, is only one of the many events hosted amid the New York Luxury condos and fashion district of Manhattan. There is something new to see every month.
