Elvis Presley Spotted in Old Trafford Near Manchester United Football Club

It’s one of those well known trivia fact about Elvis Presley. Many will argue that he never came the the UK but he did set Silagra foot in the UK and the date was March 3rd, 1960. The place was Prestwick Airport in Scotland.

It was in Scotland, (Ayrshire to be precise) during a stop-off as he was flown to the USA from Germany, where he had undertaken his military service.

It was only for a couple of hours and Prestwick was the appointed stopover because in the late fifties and early sixties Prestwick was home to the 1631 USAF unit.

Despite intense security, the news leaked out that a mystery V.I.P. was flying in and an inquisitive crowd soon began to develop. Sgt. Elvis Presley stepped onto the tarmac and local fans rushed to greet him. Without the protection from his bodyguards and his personal manager, “Colonel” Tom Parker, the legendary rockstar mingled with the crowd.

Contrary to the desire of the Scottish National Party, Scotland (for the time being) is in the U.K. so those nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine fans are all wrong!

Nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine out of every million fans will tell you that The King is dead, yet there’s always one in a million that will tell your differently. Could they be wrong a second time and that one person be right?

What if that one person were me?

I was attending the annual awards business networking event organised by Business For Breakfast at Old Trafford cricket ground and was sitting at a table close to the side of the room and my dinner place was facing the outside of the room rather than the inside. Wine was flowing freely and I enjoyed a number of glasses of well chilled Chablis to wash down what was an excellently prepared cut of chicken.

When the award ceremony kicked off in earnest I turned my chair to face the room and it was then that I had to do the double take. Had I had one too many glasses of Chablis? There, in the flesh sitting at one of the tables in the centre of the room was Elvis Presley!

After the awards had been presented I had to go over and find out what was going on and sure enough, it was another of those Elvis Presley impersonators so I guess the first thing we can conclude is that Elvis is actually dead. Or put it another way, he’s not alive and well and living down the road from Manchester United Football Club.

Being an Elvis impersonator was his chosen profession and he was extremely successful at it. Partly because he was good but partly for the very reason that he was at this awards ceremony, not to do a turn, but to exercise his business networking skills.

This particular Elvis understood that the single best advertisement for his business was him, so every day wherever he was going he dressed up as Elvis. It then becomes marketing by word of mouth, one of the fundamental business networking tips and tricks know to man. I just had to go over and talk to him, so it certainly worked as far as I was concerned.

The award ceremony is over for another year so I can safely confirm that “Elvis Presley has left the building!”
