Hungry From Sightseeing? – New York’s Cosmopolitan Eating

Being such a cosmopolitan city, New York offers one of the most comprehensive ranges of different foods and places to eat out that you are likely to find anywhere. No matter what you happen to have a fancy for, and no matter what your budget, you can experience everything from one of the city’s classic diners to some of the world’s top restaurants after your day’s sightseeing. New York has literally tens of thousands of eateries of every description offering delights from many different cultures around the world.

Italian

With the city being home to several Italian-American areas, dining out on top-notch Italian food could be the perfect way to refuel during a spot of sightseeing. New York is famed for its Little Italy in Lower Manhattan, which has over twenty different Italian restaurants to choose from. The area is very popular with tourists and, although the number of restaurants has declined over the years, this is still one of the best places to experience authentic Italian cuisine. East Harlem in Upper Manhattan, also known to some as Italian Harlem, is another place where you can find authentic Italian food and is home to the famous Rao’s Restaurant. If this is somewhere that you would like to try, however, be warned that with only ten tables and a world-class reputation, people have been known to wait months to secure a reservation. In terms of choice, Little Italy of the Bronx is arguably the best place to go in the city and here you will not only find many fine restaurants, but a whole host of cafes, delis and bakeries too.

Chinese

Where better to taste fantastic Chinese food than one of the biggest Chinese communities outside of Asia. Located in Manhattan, the famous Chinatown has over two hundred Chinese restaurants to choose from, as well as a range of restaurants which offer other Asian cuisine. This area is a superb place to eat if you really want to soak up the Chinese-American culture, and Chinese food shops with vast ranges of different speciality foods are a great place to visit when you are sightseeing New York. Chinese markets can also be found here and these make for a fascinating visit.

Greek

If Greek food is what takes your fancy in your break from sightseeing, New York offers up Astoria in the Queens district. This famous neighbourhood has some of the very best places to find good quality, delicious Greek food, no matter whether boureki, moussaka or a traditional meze is your meal of choice. As well as being home to many Greek restaurants, Astoria also offers a range of eateries serving food from Thailand, Egypt and in fact from all five continents of the world, as well as markets, delis and cafes.

It Doesn’t Stop There…

Eating out in the city is a great way to add to your experience of sightseeing.
