The township of Plettenberg Bay in a town called Bitou. Plettenberg Bay which has been nicknamed Plett or even Plet is situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Originally this township was celled Bahia Formosa – beautiful bay – by the early Portuguese explores who came here. The township lies about 210 kilometers from Port Elizabeth and some 600 kilometers from Cape Town. Plettenberg Bay lies along the Garden Route of South Africa.

For nature lovers you will find that in addition to the Nature and Marine reserve at Robberg you can visit the Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. Here you will be able to go on a guided tour where you will see and learn about the various snakes which live in this sanctuary.

On the other hand you may prefer to visit the Elephant Sanctuary. This sanctuary can be found adjacent to both the Monkeyland and Birds of Eden animal parks. At the elephant sanctuary you will be able to interact with some of the wild elephants who live here. While seeing wildlife up close and personal is spectacular you may want to take a break from all of this and visit the Truemilk Dairy located in Plettenberg Bay. At this dairy you will be able to sample some fine Cape wines, liqueurs and great tasting cheeses to sample.

From the dairy you can head off towards some adventure with some sea kayaking in Plettenberg Bay.
