See Cape Town Froma Double Decker Bus
When you arrive in Cape Town without a plan of what you would like to see or do, one of the most enjoyable and relaxing ways to decide just what it is you would like to see more of, is by taking a sightseeing bus tour of the Mother City. But an ordinary run-of-the-mill coach trip just won’t do. No, if you’re gong to do it, do it in style on one of the city’s double-decker buses. Whilst there’s no danger of mistaking Cape Town for London, the red open-top buses look just as comfortable here as in England.
The best thing about the double-decker buses in Cape Town is that you can hop on or hop off wherever you want. It means that if something particularly catches your eye, you can jump off and explore further without fear of missing your ride home; you can just jump on the next bus! Conversely, if you really don’t feel up to pounding the pavements at all, you can spend a couple of hours relaxing on board as Cape Town is brought to you on a virtual platter.
The Waterfront
You can join your bus tour at any of the designated points dotted around the city, but why not start down at the Victoria and Albert waterfront? Chances are that your accommodation will be in the vicinity and you could have a leisurely breakfast at one of the many cafes along the front. You may even want to fit in a spot of shopping to stock up on some suntan lotion for the open-top bus trip. The V & A Waterfront has Cape Town’s best shopping, with everything from fridge magnets to diamonds.
Kirstenbosch Gardens
We dare you not to exercise your ‘hop off’ option when you see the Kirstenbosch Gardens. Truly the jewel in Cape Town’s crown, the gardens are a haven of native flora and fauna set against the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain. You can spend many hours wandering through the gardens stopping to identify the diverse, rare species of plants and flowers indigenous to the Cape Peninsular. The gardens contain such enticing mini-worlds as the Fragrance Gardens, the Water-wise Gardens and the fascinating Medicinal Gardens.
Camps Bay
Whether you choose you stay on the bus and view Camps Bay from the comfort of your seat, or hop off and experience the sand between your toes, Cape Town’s most vibrant beach is sure to make you smile. Spectacular scenery, turquoise waters and wonderful wide beaches leave you in doubt as to why Camps Bay has achieved its reputation as the Cape’s luxury beach destination.
Table Mountain
The pinnacle of your bus tour in more ways than one, Table Mountain dominates the skyline of Cape Town, and taking the bus is one of the easier ways to get there. Of course if you’re feeling energetic you can hike up under your own steam, but when you see the comfort and style of the double-decker buses you could regret your decision! The bus will drop you at the cable- car stop where you will continue your journey to the top of Cape Town’s most popular tourist attraction – and when you get there, you’ll certainly see why it is.
